My 93 ATX had a bad problem from the day I bought it with the old up/down idle, and dropping way down after a rev...almost to the point of dieing.

The other day I bought a can of Valvoline Synpower TB cleaner, disconnected the duct work running from box to TB. I then sprayed the crap out of the TB, then I opened up the TB butterfly and sprayed the "ports" that run to the Idle air control. when I sprayed in that area, all kinds filth muck ran out of the TB throat. I wiped it all clean and started the engine.

No more up/down idle. As a matter of fact it started idling around 2,300 rpm. I know the prvious owner had told me that he had it in the shop for an idle problem. The mechanic probably just jacked up the idle instead of fixing the prob, and when I cleaned the crud out it got better flow.

After backing the idle set screw down...alot,it nowidles great at just below 1k.

no more bouncy idle or dieing.

Hope this helps someone

If there were that much crap in there I'd at least try and take out the IAC and clean it. In GM apps you can actually take it apart to clean it if you're careful. Haven't had to try on the SHO or Cobra yet so not too sure on Ford apps.

I replaced the one on my 88 bronco,...and then I smashed it with a hammer to see what made it tick....You can spray the **** out of them...theres not much in there.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my 93 ATX. I think mine may be related to tune-up issues, needing to replace the spark plugs and wires! I'll do the spraying first though, even though I do this already from time to time.
