I replaced the rod bearings in the car and used shopheonix way. In the steps said put a little **** on outside of bearing before installing but then I just read don't put any on outside. I put a little on the outside and of course enough on the inside...do I have to take it all back apart and clean off any **** on outside of the bearings and reassemble dry on outside, only lubed on inside?!

I put assembly **** on both sides of mine. No issues here. I think you'll be OK.

Yes, enough to hold them in place. On the rod. I remember asking the same question way back when.

The tangs keep them from spinning. Once the car is back together they will all be coated in motor oil regardless. Rotate the crank by hand to make sure nothing is binding and crank the engine with to DIS unplugged to get pressure up. You'll be fine.

I rotated by hand when I was done and it spun freely...then turned it over by starter with coil unplugged to get oil goin thru it and watched oil pressure gauge til it registered pressure

"Coat new connecting rod bearings with engine assembly lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-a, and install connecting rod bearings in connecting rod and connecting rod caps"

"Install caps, make sure the front/back marks are correct and install to same journal" (paraphrased)

"Coat" doesn't rule out the backside being coated. Pre-**** will be in the oil soon enough.
