Can anyone tell me if a GENIII trans can be used in a GENII? If not can you tell me why? Also, will any GENII (like SLO or winstar) AXOD series transmission make a good core case for a rebuild, if I buy all SHO hardparts for rebuild.

No. The Gen II and III bellhousings are different. And no, you only want to use a SHO tranny for rebuilding. The valve bodies are different.
