Transmission from 3rd to 1st

Hello. I recently purchased a 2014 SHO about a year ago.

My quick question is, I notice when in sports mode, when coming to a stop, the transmission never gears down to 2nd. It always goes from 3rd to 1st.

Is this normal?

While I was out driving tonight I tested this. Found my '14 does the same thing. I would assume it's the nature of these cars.

Maybe in preparation for acceleration? Does the shift happen around 7-8 mph?

My 2014 does it and so does my 2010 when in manual mode. Completely normal. It is very smooth and unless you are looking at the numbers on the instrument panel, you would barely feel it.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't terribly worried, because it was perfect in every respect when I bought it from the dealership as a 'Certified Pre-Owned', but was still curious.
