Ok...I'm about ready to blow the SHO up here, need some help! My trans is still apart and I have a dilema...the car went in for an occasional grind from 1st to 2nd. This only happens during quick shifts, normal driving is fine. My shop says that 1st, 2nd and 5th gears are worn and need replacing, along with synchros. Now, I can't find gears ANYWHERE, and I'm not even sure if they're THAT worn...my knowledge with transmissions is limited.

First off, does anyone have a line on where I can get new gears? Specifically, 2nd gear. I've never had trouble with 1st or 5th. Secondly, if leave the gears alone and replace synchros & blocking rings, will that help/take care of the 1-2 grind?

I need some serious help here. I'm not entirely trusting of my shop at this point and my only other option is paying a guy $1700 for a rebuilt trans, and there's no way in **** I'm doing that.

Need responses before I do the unthinkable...sell the SHO for a GTP!

Replacing the synchros will fix the problem temporarily if the gears are bad, but you are only fixing a symptom of the real problem. Perhaps you can just buy someones tranny out of a parts car?

There's actually a long story to that...the short form is that, yes there is a completely rebuilt MTX-IV at the trans shop, left there by another SVT/SHO Society member. It's been there a year, he bought a GTP and actually he still owes the shop money on the labor but he's reluctant to part with it since a Ford dealer told him it's worth $1800

Have you tried to get in touch with Mark Nunnally? He seems to pull trannies more than most. Also I bought some stuff from Robert McFee? He had an 89 for parts in WV (whole car w/spun bearing for $200). Real good guy. I'm sure he'd give you a decent price on his tranny. Run a search in the classified section here to find his post. I'm pretty sure he still has it.

Huntervf: I have a tranny with a bad diff. (I believe) Contact me on AIM. The half hour that I drove the car around, it was driven aggressively with no grinding or harshness. Contact me thorugh email or AIM (Cashconv07) if you want.
