Tranny problem? (Or maybe I'm just worrying)

The other nigh I was out on a cruise and got into it with a 2000 model Olds Aurora (sounded like it had the V6 that had some exhaust work done). Long story short, I ended up having him by about half a car the whole time until I hit O/D.

The tranny decided that it would shift at 6K instead of the usual 7K. Is this just something that these cars normally do when O/D is engaged, or is there something going on with the tranny? Cause as soon as it shifted into fourth, I just saw the Aurora start walking and the ol' Taurus just kinda left her balls at the door.

However, I did get props from the dude :woo-hoo:

Since 6k rpm in 3rd is 120 mph, and since the atx cars are speed limited at 120, I would expect that it would not go any faster than that....

So you have an ATX? And you were driving with o/d off? You'll get better gas mileage with o/d on. Additionally, you want o/d on over 60-70 mph, at least on gen 3's anyway.

i thought the normal governed speed for an atx is 141 mph. My sho according to the guy I got the replacement ecu from is no longer governed. Not that it matters - I have a cdl and would lose my career FOREVER if caught doing that.

My computer is stock and I know that my car isn't limited at 120 mph but it might limited at maybe 142mph:evilgrin:

No I had the overdrive on while I was racing the guy, but it decided to shift into 4th at 6 grand in 3rd instead of the usual 7000 rpm. I just found it strange. I mean the car does have 192,000 miles on it, and I'm guessing its already had the tranny gone through at least once. It isn't slipping or anything really, its just a little hesitant from 1st-2nd. It'll probably need to be gone through again here in about 10,000 miles if I drive it easy I'm guessing...
