Hello all I’m trying to figure out and fix a shudder/hesitation issue with my 2015 SHO. I got the car back in October 22 and a CARFAX report I got stated the transmission/transaxle was replaced and associated parts were re programmed. I called the place to verify and they stated they did replace the trans but didn’t say anything regarding the transaxle.

Car is 2015 Taurus SHO 78,881 miles atm.

As for the symptoms themselves I have a large amount of oil in the intake piping before the throttle body running down to the intercooler? (Not familiar with the SHO platform at all) i understand these cars are meant to have a little blow by but I feel it’s a little much. My oil level has not dropped below the fill line since I’ve had the car and I don’t have any puddles or stains under my parking space.

The issue occurs at light throttle acceleration rpm’s will bounce rapidly in a 2-300 area around 1-2k. In 3rd gear at 3k rpm at any throttle input the rpm’s will remain nearly exactly at 3k but the car will continue to accelerate albeit slowly.

I recently deleted my noise maker in a Belief it is a boost leak. The hesitation and rpm fluctuation stopped or at least occurred less afterwards. Still struggles at low rpm and hangs at 3k in 3rd

I’ve read some posts that are leading me to believe it’s the torque converter slipping but I’ve also read those are typically replaced with the transmission but idk how likely that actually happened in my case, the shop does have good reviews and doesn’t seem shady.

I now believe it has to be a leak from one or both turbos. I have checked hose connections only on the top and front of the engine I haven’t had the chance to check the bottom or rear connections so those remain a possibility. Spark plugs have been replaced and properly gapped. Safe to assume no other maintenance has been done.

If anyone has experienced something similar or is more familiar with this platform and can point me in a good direction that would be life saving to my wallet and my sanity.

TLDR: car shudders at low rpm, hangs at 3k rpm in 3rd gear. Lot of oil in intercooler. Transmission replaced few months ago as well as spark plugs. No other records of maintenance done.

I personally would pull the trans plug and see how the fluid looks. If the fluid is dark then I would question if the work was actually performed. If you pull the plug roughly 5 quarts should come out. I would measure what comes out. I would replace those with new fluid and make sure the fluid level is proper. Then add another pint on top of that.

I believe the work was done, that shop seems to be a reputable place. Further support on that - when I checked the trans fluid the day I got it it was a nice red, no sign of metal shavings or such. I checked again last night (~8 months later) it is currently a light shade of brown. It is also over the full line by about an inch when cold, a little less when at ot. Unfortunately I don’t have the means to drain it multiple times.. if you believe a flush by a shop could help or assist in crossing off possible issues I can give that a try. I also heard a studder fix bottle (I forget the name) helps a lot with similar issues.

The trans has a drain and fill port? All it takes is a pan to drain the fluid into and about 20 minutes of your time.
I change mine regularly because it's so easy.
