I was looking for a SHOrt shifter awhile back and searched out people to see if they had one. I found Tompumped and sent a message. Went back and forth with communication about eBay feedback, Community involvement, payment options. We landed on PP friends and family. He has been a member here since 2006. Paid 350 and then communication stopped. I sent a money request back through PayPal with description…. He canceled the request. I will update this thread if I get the money or the shifter. Just be aware of selling/buying even in this community. Tompumped from VT is the forum name.

It sounds like he suckered you into buying outside of eBay, so he cheated you out of eBay buyer protection. Bad, very bad move on your part.

File a complaint with PayPal. Do NOT tell PayPal that you contacted him on eBay then bought outside of eBay, because that's a violation of eBay & PayPal TOS and your eBay account can get cancelled. Do not even mention eBay. Tell PayPal you met Tom on this forum & made arrangements here. What is Tompumped's eBay account name? That can tell us more.

Worst case, you lost $350 but you are wiser for the experience.

EDIT: You can't file a complaint with PayPal because it's a violation of PayPal TOS to use use Friends-and-Family to pay for goods.

I think you misunderstood. I believe it was not a purchase from ebay outside of ebay. He found tompumped on the forum, but tom provided ebay as a reference for his feedback/legitimacy.

Well, he wrote "Went back and forth with communication about eBay feedback". I'm guessing that means @tompumped eBay feedback may not be positive. We'll know more when @Sho-N-Go tells us the seller's eBay username.

I also noticed he paid using PayPal Friends-and-Family option, and I think that does not have any buyer protection at all. In addition, it's a violation of PayPal terms to pay for goods using Friends-and-Family, so my recommendation of filing a complaint with PayPal is not applicable.

It was not a purchase on eBay. I found him here on Shoforum. He provided his eBay feedback for credibility and honesty. He then said he was semi active in the community for a long time. I totally understand that PP friend and family has no protection. We landed on that partially because he claimed he preferred that due to being burnt months later when buyers could just get refund for vague reasons. As well as PayPal catering to buyers in that way. I know I am out the money. I am warning others, with the hope some press will net me a shifter or money back if someone happens to know the guy. In the end it’s a fairly small amount of money for someone to ruin a reputation over.

Tom is currently selling it on Ebay.
WOW!

Seller has some nerve after having stiffed the OP at a minimum.

Goodness.

that 100% feedback would probably make me inclined to purchase from this seller on ebay. Good reminder to keep antenna up for BS
There is an eBay/PayPal loophole for really bad Sellers.
If the seller really screws up, always ignores messages, and you file a complaint with PayPal, if you mention in feedback that you filed a complaint you are not allowed to also mention in feedback if PayPal found in your favor. If you do seller can have the feedback removed. Yeah, stupid policy, but it's there.

I bought a car radio from an eBay seller. While I waited & waited weeks for the radio to ship, I constantly saw negative feedback and buyers mentioning they filed a complaint. Next day the feedback was always gone. This was a terrible seller but turns out they did this on purpose. I didn't realize it until I did the same thing - filed a complaint, got the part, then mentioned in feedback that I filed a complaint & PayPal found in my favor. Next day, feedback was removed. Now I'm wiser.
