Today I decided to call the number on the tokico limited warranty contract that came w/the parts. The number listed is a private residence. Next I called information for carparts.com inc. This outfit is a software company and they deal in software that controls the internet site. They have nothing to do with the sales of parts. The person gave me a number for jc whitney?, ok, I have not made a toll free call yet in this primetime period. They told me they don't deal with warranty issues over the phone, that I should try writing & faxing documents, I said my car is out of service and I have paidout a great deal of labor charges for installation & removal for a strut that did't last half as long as the original oem parts. They gave me a number for tech assist. & I got the same song & dance. all warranty issues by mail only. I stated concern for the performance of a new strut & a 60000mi strut on the same axle. And the control hazard issue. I also stressed again time factor of the vehicle being out of service. they acually agreed. They took my part numbers name, & phone. Said they would contact me. We'll see. I will call back tomorrow.

Here's an online copy of Tokico's warranty: http://www.tokicogasshocks.com/warranty.html
Their phone number is up at top too.

Turn around time has always been a downside of warranty claims for lifetime warranted shocks and struts. Manufacturers probably think of them in terms of rebates: there's enough built in hassle that many people won't opt to take advantage of them. Best thing you can do is keep your original struts, do your own labor, and temporarily install the originals when making a warranty claim. It sucks, but what are you going to do? shrug

Billy, if you get a call back from a Tokico rep and they turn out to be really helpful then could you post their name and extension number here? Just knowing who to talk to in a company is always more effective than going through official channels, even if the official channels seem to be well organized (and judging from your experience, Tokico's are not. :( )

This is the down side of Dot Com commerce. You save a couple of bucks up front, but expect the same service. Well, sorry to be rash, but your getting what you paid for. Struts for cheap, and no retailer to back them up. “It’s the penny wise and pound foolish” thing. There is the cheapest price, and the best price. If you bought them locally, you could have had them order the replacement after you SHOwed them the defective one, and only been down a day. See if you can buy a single replacement from Tokico, and have them credit it back when you send in the bad unit. Other then that, those overnight shipping charges on a strut really suck.
