My 95 MTX has developed a groan while turning on the left side of the car. It does not matter which way I turn, it groans. Also, while driving next to a concrete barrier or in a parking garage with the windows down, I can hear a slight ticking that increases in rhythm with the speed of the car. The ticking can be heard while turning and driving straight.

The groan is not from the upper strut mounts. I was listening to the top of the strut tower while someone else turned the wheels and the sound is coming from below the strut mount. I have not noticed any other sounds or felt anything abnormal in the steering while driving.

I'm thinking the ticking could be a wheel bearing or the CV joint. But I'm not sure about the groan. Can a bad CV joint groan? If the groaning isn't the CV joint, what else could it be?

I have not had the car up and the wheel off yet. I'm trying to find out what may possibly be worn since I'm not very good at diagnosing steering related problems.

bad wheel bearings will moan, groan, drone, hum, and sing at constant or varying speeds. bad CV joints will cause the vehicle to shudder on acceleration or deleceraltion. i suspect wheel bearings are worn and need replaced.
