Hey guys,

I don't think I have gotten a full week of service out of the SHO without something breaking.

My latest problem. I have a slight vibration/clunk noise from what appeared to be the passenger side front area. The clunks were even( sounded like a flat tire, clunk, clunk, clunk , clunk.)
I pulled over, and checked the tires out. No bulges/flat spots. I continue home with this clunk noise. It clunked only under 20km/h and the sound vibration went away about that. I figured it must be a wheel bearing or a shaft.

Today I jacked the car up and got the wheels off the ground.
I can spin the drives side wheel freely(basically has no resistance). I moved over to the passenger side wheel and it will spin about an inch and then stop abruptly. I managed to get the wheel to sping by putting my whole weight onto it. Even then it wouldn't continue rolling. Calipers are floating properly and pads are not stuck to the rotor.

While the car was up I started it and let the clutch out, the power went directly to the drivers side wheel due to it having no resistance. I placed the wheel I had taken off and wedged it infront of the drivers wheel so it would force the power over to the passenger side. The car wanted to die as I let the clutch out (was doing my tests at idle). I gave it a bit of gas and let the clutch out and it started to spin the passenger side. I could hear the whole assembly vibrating at it was spinning. As I let off the gas the car immediatly wanted to die.

I was gonna take the car on an hour drive today to see my gf, however 30km after leaving my place the clunking became louder. It clunks severly up to 80km/h now. It clunks when driving straight and when turning to the left. When turning to the right, the clunks are barely audible but the vibration is still there.

My first though was that it was a wheel bearing, however based on reading a ton of threads on here it sounds more like a cv shaft, or perhaps even a blown dif. I am not dripping fluid anywhere and I could not find any holes where the dif pin blew through.

Any thoughts?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it sounds like a cv axle...

if its hard to turn, most likely is the axle..

yeah, either diff pin or it hopfully is the Rzeppa cv joint but it dosent explain the wheel not being able to turn so its likley your diff... sorry to hear it.

Pull the passenger side CV shaft (including the innermediate shaft) from the tranny. Look into the trans where the CV shaft slides into the diff. You should see 1 large pinion shaft that passes completely throught the diff. There will also be 2 smaller pinion shafts that do not pass through the diff. They intersect the longer pin, but do not touch it in the middle. If you infact have a diff pin that is getting ready to eject, you can sometimes see one of the smaller pinion shafts has "walked away" from the longer pinion shaft. This is when the pin starts eating away at the case until one day it "punches through". You will feel the pin eject followed by a complete loss of tranny fluid.

You can search "diff pin" for all kinds of horrid pictures.:thumb:

If it was my dif pin, would it allow the power to go to either wheel still?

The vibration now seems to be coming from directly infront of me(sitting the drivers seat) and extends over across the firewall.. I checked the boots on the cv and they appeared in good shape. Looks like they had been replaced in the past 3 years.

It seems every since I had my clutch replaced, the car has been nothing but problems.
When I first got the car back it chatters like a mother in reverse, bucking bronco. Shop said since I provided the new clutch they wouldn't cover it and I would have to pay them the labour to take the tranny out once again to see what the problem was. After dumping $1200 into that fiasco I wasn't gonna pay them another $900labour and surpass the amount I paid for the car. I have lived with the bucking in reverse by slipping the clutch whenever I need to.

The car is my winter beater, and currently my only mode of transportation.
I had the hopes of selling it in less then a month , however if the tranny grenades itself
it looks like it will be sold as parts then.

Clutch chatter is usually an indication of heat checking or the flywheel was not turned. This is mostly present in reverse due to the high gearing.
