So, I am looking at a 2010 SHO against a 2011 SHO.

2010w/PP CPO and Navigation - 33k+ miles -$24,900 (test drove yesterday)

2011w/PP no CPO/Nav - 27K+ miles - $24,900 (2hr drive - no test drive yet)

Is the 2011 the better option? I feel the 2010 is over priced also, more like $20,000.

I drove a 2011 335i ($28,000) - I liked the kick in the pants feel but not road friendly enough for family.

The 2010 SHO moved, it just didn't through me back in the seat like the 335i. Also, don't get me started on the cub holders. Really.

I am going to go drive a 2011 5.0 R-Spec Genesis tomorrow just to get the feel for something else. The Dealer has it listed for $30,000 with 33K miles. FLAME ON

Give me some input.

Thanks,

Brad

Welcome, Brad, hope to convert you to SHOwnership! I don't think you can go wrong with either SHO, though I personally would take the 2010 for CPO and navigation. Is the 2011 still within the B2B warranty? Get the Ford extended warranty thrown in on them either way, for that price.

I have often seen people post that while they other cars feel faster, they are actually driving way faster in the SHO before they realize it. A bad thing for the SHO maybe if you are solo, and at the track. A couple have sold their BMW 3-series to get into a SHO for the very reason you state, family-friendliness.

Let us know how your R-spec drive goes! Great to have first-hand comparisons :)

Yep, what SHOdded said. I would agree you could probably negotiate the price down a bit on the 2010. For the exact same money, the 2011 is the better value but it would really depend upon the condition and how badly you want Nav. Both are low mileage cars so that is good. For around $600, you can get a tune for a SHO and it will make you forget all about the BMW or Genesis.

I got my 2010 Taurus SHO black with nav but non pp with 48k miles for 21,900. And that was like almost 2k below book at the time.. So I guess 24,900 seems a little high.. I'd think at 23 you're still getting a great deal especially with nav + pp. Just my 2 cents. I also tuned mine (400$ from unleashed tuning) and it is ridiculous fast for a Taurus.

So, I have been driving the Genesis all morning. It is quite fast, a little more squishy in the handling (vs the PP suspension). It is fast, I feel the additional hp at the top end, but it is slow to set in. This could be a little to do with the shifting of the 8 speed auto. It is so much quitter on the inside though. The SHO made a ton of noise right off the start. (IS THIS NORMAL?) The SHO seamed to quite down a little on the freeway but driving around town, it was a little obnoxious. I am going to drive the Genesis around some more this afternoon with my wife and also go drive the 2010 SHO again with her to see which she likes better. Oh, and I am not seeing where the extra $10,000 is at on the Hyundai.

Is the noise from the exhaust? Could possibly be aftermarket, not OEM. Driving with windows up or down? If anything, the SHO is too quiet inside the cabin, and people look for ways to liven up the exhaust sound as well as enhance the turbo "whistle".

Also, not sure the navigation system does much if anything for me. I ended up using Google Maps on my phone because it can search. It was nice with the larger screen though. And not a real fan of the adaptive cruise control. It can't be turned off on the Hyundai, just the distance between cars can be adjusted. I didn't like the feeling of the car breaking on its own. Also, in traffic around Scottsdale on freeway, it reacts to everything around you and makes the car do things that I didn't want. If anything, it just makes the cruise control unusable when I probably shouldn't and typically wouldn't be using it anyways. It would be nice for when I am txting though.

Just FYI, if you press the "Dest" button rather than the "Nav" button, it has some decent filtering as you type, showing the options like "T... H....", shows "Thorn Run Dr", pretty nice. (Only lets you type stuff in when you're parked though.)

Also, and this really, really impressed me, I had navigation on the highway, it got an update from somewhere (from Sirius I presume) that noted an accident, and automatically proposed a route around it. When we got off the exit, we saw cars a 1000 feet up or so still on the highway piling up into a massive traffic jam. Suckers. (Ooops, I meant "Poor Souls".) The route around it was tight, nothing extraneous, and we barely missed a beat. I used to use Google's navigation on my phone for a couple years before getting my SHO, and it never knew of accidents, etc. Very cool. Also, the screen is much, much bigger than any phone, which I never knew I'd appreciate until I had it. Hope that helps.

i bought my 2010 non pp taurus with 36000 miles on it for 22500 canadian I couldnt say no once i got them down to that. they originally wanted 24500. I was looking at WRX, Mustang, S4, 335i, camaro dodge challenger/charger chrysler 300c awd. basically it came down to WRX and the sho cause of the awd and my underlining hatred of dodge for some reason. It was simply just so much cheaper i couldnt not get a sho. It checked all boxs. I may have given the 300c a chance but i couldnt find any for sale period with awd.

Don't rule out a 2011+ Charger R/T or 2010+ Infiniti G37, 2012+ Acura TL. They are under $30K, loaded up, and quick.

That R-Spec seems high. I'm seeing 2012's with under 30k miles for ~$28K. Can be had for $25K I'm sure. My local Hyundai dealer bought my old '12 Sonata 2.0T for $17,800 and had it listed for $24K. It's now listed at $21.5 2 months later, still unsold lol.

FYI, I bought my fully loaded ($47.3K sticker) '13 SHO w/ PP 5,500 miles for $30,800. Was in service for 7 months, so tons of warranty left.

Out of the 2010 or 2011, I'd go 2010. Offer $21K and walk. They may split it and go to $22K. Helluva a lot of car for that money.

Wife said no on the Hyundai and I honestly can't blame her. She was against spending that much on a car with so many miles. I am happy she put her foot down, helped me on my way. Dealer did take care of me for the day and didn't try to much shit. They thought I would like the 4.6 genesis and I said no. Just wont perform to the same level as I see the SHO going.

I am back in forth on the nav. I did have some time to play with it but maybe moved on to quick to really see how well it worked. If I owned the car, I would have played around more with it but no bother.

I am going to go drive the 2011 tomorrow, will fight pretty ******* the price. Will see how it goes. I hope it is in better condition than the 2010. The 2010 was actually the 2009 shipped version so no idea if the TSB o items have been dealt with. Hopefully will have a better idea after I actually drive the 2011.

Be sure to check for peeling chrome around the tail lights. No biggie, just cosmetic, but it could give you negotiating power. All of them those years do it (peel).

Bring this full circle. I drove a new Nissan Maxima S 3.5. Wife wanted me to keep my options open. Pretty quick car. It was new, fully loaded, quite, smooth. The CVT transmission is pretty nice. Leave it alone and once it hit its power band for the motor (not sure on the actual RPM), the car just keeps accelerating. Not shift or anything. It is not going to keep pace with a SHO though. Just not enough power.

Also drove the 2011 SHO. 2 hour drive to get to dealer. The car was in really nice condition. Much better than the 2010. During test drive, I noticed that the 2011 was quieter at the lower RPM's than the 2010. Didn't have the loud noise the bothered me about the 2010.

Offered them $20,000, they came back at $24,700 saying that they would be happy to drive the price a little. I countered at $23,900, they can back at $24,700. Said that they did not have any room in the car to lower it. Hum. Even though he said before that they lower $500 after 30 days on lot. OK. It was also the Owner's wife's car. Pretty sure they have a lot of room in the car for price as they didn't pay anywhere near wholesale for the car to begin with. He had the nerve to pull out the KBB internet printout to show me how the price was reasonable. Felt like pulling out my phone and showing him that I had that sheet too. Not a very good experience so I walked.

Sounds like they thought your 2 hour drive indicated you'd be willing to pay full price! That sucks. Might try a 200 mile search using Cars.com and Autotrader.com.

So, after all of my looking, I ended up with an 08 Mustang GT with a Roush M90 supercharger, full ford racing exhaust with x-pipe, and only 22,600 miles. I was out the door at just under 20,000, tax, title, and license. Needless to say, I won't be hanging around here to much for the time being. Thanks for the help.

Thought you were looking at a family car... Lol. Congrats, hope it does fine. Not sure if I could pay 22k for a 6 year old car.
