My 92' mtx with 168k just blow its third cooling hose in the past six months (all different). once again i just barely avioded walking. I'm considering buying the complete cooling hose replacement kit from shoshop but its $250. am i the only one that thinks thats kinda steep? it includes eight hoses.

All but one of the small hoses can be replaced with bulk hose from your parts store. Dirt cheap. The U-shaped hose at the oil filter is the one that needs to be preformed.

You can get the lower radiator hose from NAPA, the part number has been listed previously. A SEARCH should find it. The upper radiator hose is available from Gates.

I got the lower hose to work using a NAPA 7311 hose. All the rest of the hoses are bulk hose. You can use 5/8" hydraulic hose for the U shaped one on the oil cooler, it will not kink.

In fact if you used hydraulic hose everywhere for the smaller hoses, you would not blow another hose again.

Hydraulic hose = strong shit. Thought I was the only one who used that. We got that stuff by the mile at work.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
I didn't try bulk hose like you guys. BUT I did try getting as many aftermarket hoses as I could. Not worth it IMHO. It was a pain to track them down. The fit was inferior. And if you get the hoses at www.fordpartsnetwork.com you don't really pay a ton of money. The lower radiator hose from FPN for example is very reasonably priced and it fits perfectly. I went with an aftermarket hose for the lower (not the NAPA hose) and I didn't like the way it rubbed against the subframe.

I tend to swing towards extremes so my humble suggestion would be to try the bulk hose like these good men suggested or just order preformed Ford hoses from Torrie at Ford Parts Network. But I would avoid the misery of trying to get hoses from the aftermarket like I went through. I think I went to 5 auto parts stores to get what amounted to poorly fitting hoses. Even doing it a second time knowing the part numbers and which stores had what it would be a waste of my time to go through that hassle to pick up second best. The Ford hoses lasted me 12 years and 14X,000 miles without a leak. Way too long no doubt, but at least I'm now pretty sure that the quality is there. Got lots of peace of mind with my brand new Ford coolant hoses.

Might want to replace the radiator cap. There is a chance that the cap is not relieving pressure at 16 psig to the expansion bottle as it is required to do. The result would be the weakest hose fails first.

Agree with Scott. Just saw this on a SHO last weekend. It was blowing hoses left and right, even brand new ones. Replaced the rad cap and all's well.

Good luck.
