I'm the guy that dropped the tappet holder into the engine. Tool was recovered, all valves now set up correctly and now installing new rod bearrings. I also bought new 02 sensors. I have 2 questions.........1: best silicone for putting the pan back on? and 2: While I have the Y pipe out, I'm thnking about removing the cats. I have a muffler shop that will do it. How will it affect the car? I live where we are NOT required to get smogged. Also, thinking of putting a K&N cone filter on it. Any suggestions? :D

By removing the cats, you will lose what little low-end torque the SHO has. I'm no "tree-hugger" by any stretch, but even though you are not required to run with cats, you should. Your grandkids and mine will thank you for it.

Oh, I forgot, You will also get a very raspy exhaust sound. Many here have likened it to a bunch of angry bees in a coffee can.

The holder was on the 2nd baffle, it would have posed NO harm, but I'm glad it went in there because I looked at the rod bearring on #6 and it was shot. I haven't looked at the others yet, but I bought a whole new set of 6. has anyone ever replaced the mains while under there?

How much is the exhaust shop charging you for this?

the stock y-pipe is somewhat valuable expecially if you know the cats are in good shape. A high-flow catless pipe can be purchased from SHOshop for $199, this to me seems like a better idea.

The exhaust shop guy said he'd do it for $60 since I had the Y pipe off, but I wanted to check here and see what other people thought of it and I'm gonna leave it alone. I'm worried about it being too loud.

<----Gutted. No appreciable loss in the low end. Noticeable gain up top nearing redline. Take it from someone who has done it, not what people "think" will happen. The exhaust note will be "throatier".

just go with a catless SHOshop one its been worked with no crappy bends like 90degree angles flows better and all equal length. then get some true duals have the y-pipe cut for them to be put on get 2" from a local shop with whatever mufflers u like and have a resonator stuck on each pipe a decently sized one for no rasp. then my friend that'll be one sweat sounding exhaust system she'll purr like a 8
