Really.... :smash: Well no duh! It's still on there to keep any crap out of it before I put the bumper cover back on.

Yeah I know, I was just trying to mess with you and be funny... :)
Good idea, no sense having to clean the filter before you even start up the car for the first time.

I don't know anything about about this kind of supercharger is built, but is it possible to turn the compressor housing, or clock it so the outlet comes out at a diffrent spot? the only reason i ask is there is a beautiful 180* bend going into the tb, which shows you care about good plumbing. but then you had to use that wicked sharp 90" silicone hose right at the compressor outlet and another sharp 45 right after it. oh yeah, looks sweet too :salute:

Geeze Terry, and I thought you were going to tell us all about your new girl friend...

That's some nice looking plumbing! Where did ya get that discharge tube?

I don't know why someone hasn't just welded a 2.5" Alumimum elbow to the comp housing and turned the housing so it discharges more conveniently into the cross pipe, but maybe welding on the housing will void the Vortech warranty? Road Race Engineering has 2.5", 90º, tight radius cast elbows. You can always buy one of these and put it all together with some short straight couplers.

We do this all the time on turbo chargers, here's a 2" elbow on the comp housing for my SVO's Garrett GT30R with a forward facing discharge, welded and fully polished.

Terry, could you PM me your source on the bypass valve? Thank you
That's an OEM Bosch bypass valve, am pretty sure I included it when Terry got the discharge tube from me. They can be found in JY's on Saab, VW and Audi turbo cars. They are a 1" style valve and might be a little small for Terry's 3.2L if he decides to run high boost. There are lot's of aftermarket replacements for this valve.

The Bosch valve is known for having some leaking issues at idle and not holding closed during high boost; many of the aftermarket replacements claim to have addressed these problems. The idle leak isn't a problem with recirculation style systems as Terry has, but if used as an atmosphere blow-off, the leak can be problematic if its downstream of the air metering.

half-way there, I think.
Exactly right Gary. I have looked at some of the after market replacements and done a little reading on the weakness of the stock piece. Until I have a problem it won't be replaced. A slightly improved valve is used on the Turbo Porsche cars as well. Here's a nice link with part numbers. If I decide on more boost, I will look into a BOV or maybe adding another bypass valve like the Audi twin turbos.

Thank you Gary, that's exactly the style I was looking for. I'm running low-boost (between 6 and 9 psi) and I don't need a crazy blow off valve. I'm more function over form than anything.

Congrats Terry!

One thought: I'd re-think the K&N / MAF distance relationship along with the location of it, unless it's for dry-only days. Tom's right, you're going to pick up a LOT of road debris, and it'll get wet - not something you want with the MAF element right after the filter in this case.

I rotated an ABS computer completely under the rad support on one I did, totally hidden, and allowed enough room to put the battery up front over the drivewheels for more-imagined traction. :)

Fred,

Gary and I talked about my MAF placement and routing. Although it's not ideal, it is the best I can do with the alotted space. Until I fit the bumper cover back on and see how much of the filter is exposed, I can't really say what I will do.

BTW It fired up on the first try :salute:

Friggin SWEET! I'm jealous.

Fred, I'll be running the filter and MAF in thea same spot. Pat has been running his in that location for some time and I've been with him driving through some pretty rough rain. If your not in a puddle, it's not a big deal... Heck, I'm injecting water into the motor anyway.

IIRC from heresay guys, Bill Mashburn was running with the inlet there, and ingested water, locked his engine up. May want to check with him / John Mears about that, as I'm repeating like 5th-hand on this.

I remember talking to Bill about that last year. Seems to me like the filter was lower and he went through a good size puddle or got caught in a nasty down pour. I don't drive me SHO in bad weather, unless I get caught in it. Like I said, if needed, I will build some sort of splash sheild around the filter.

Well, I took out the Blown Outlaw for it's maiden test drive. Even with a very bad tune (very rich & a lot of timing pulled) it screams... Not as fast as some of the other blower cars I've driven, but man when the boost starts building  Once I get it tuned, I will add some of the timing back and get it on the dyno.

Benvie, shoot me a mail, would you? I MIGHT get the cylinder head temp sensor installed in my 911 in time for the Cape Run, need more info if it'd be ok to join in the fun.
