Tape Deck constantly jamming with Tape Adaptor

Ok, so what's the deal? Has anyone else had problems trying to use a Sony Tape Adaptor module in their tape deck in their SHO? I'm now on my second adaptor, and I've cleaned them both and they run just fine in anything else I use.

And yes, I'm one of those poor souls that has a Cloth interior and almost no options added, including the Changer. So my Discman with Tape adaptor is my only salvation on long trips between big cities. Anything I can do to clean the tape deck itself or something so that I can have tunes on my way up to Minnesota this coming weekend?

You really should check out e-bay, I've seen some changers for around $240. One's a 10 disk even. Gotta search under Taurus and not SHO though. You'll probably get about 18 pages of Taurus stuff and only 4 pages of SHO stuff.

Ahh... were it that I had $240 to spend... Heck, if I had $24 to spend, I'd be happy.

In any case, I realise now that i didn't really describe what was happening. Basically, the tape adaprot will be running fine for maybe a minute or two, then it'll spontaneously flip to side 2, then back to side 1, and then eject with an error. Lately I've been frustrated enough with it to stop it before it can read the error, so I don't have it with me, but I'm certain it's a tape deck error (tde 1 or something). It's like the adaptor gets bound up somehow, makes the deck think it's at the end, then flips, stays stuck, flips again and won't play, which triggers the error.

If aynone has any other suggestions on how to get this tape deck working (haven't risked one of my vintage 80's album-tapes yet to test it), I'd appreciate the help!

Mine did that in my 96 Taurus (non-SHO) and I went through several tape adaptors. They were Radio Shack brand and not Sony's though, but I don't think that makes a differnce.

On your adaptor you don't have an actual tape within your adaptor do you? It looks more like a tape head in the adaptor right? If so, then that is the same as the one that I had from Radio Shack. On that tape head or transfer head as you may want to call it. There should be a thin plastic covering. On mine that covering was always coming off and causing the tape deck to constantly flip sides. I finally just removed the covering (which is kinda like a piece of scotch tape) and that worked for a little while, till I did this..... I tried "demagnatizing" my tape player. I went to Radio Shack again and bought a tape demagnatizer for about $5.00 It works the same way as a tape player cleaner (which you should try first of course, and make sure you give your tape deck plenty of time to dry before you insert a tape). Anyhow, the demagnatizer should have a button cell battery in it, and this demagnatizer, "demagnatizes" your tape head in your tape deck. I guess the tape head build up magnatizm (spelling??) and can cause your tapes not to play correctly. Now this is all going off of what the Radio Shack guy told me about 3 years ago. I did what he said with my tape deck and also taking off the clear plastic film on the tape head of my adaptor and cleaning it and all 3 together worked good. Till I traded my 96 in for a 98 SE and then traded the 98 SE in for a 98 SHO!!! burn_out
