I just recently purchased a rockford 800a2 and I won an auction for a hertz hbx 300 ds. I have 6 gauge cable, do I need to get 4 gauge? I know if i'm pushing the amp to the limits I should go with 4 or 2, but I don't plan on it.

Supposedly the sub can handle 600 watts rms. Does anyone have any experience with hertz? Are they underrated? In the auction listing the seller said it can handle a true 1200 watts of power.
If you look in completed auctions in ebay and type in hertz you can see it if you want. Hopefully it sounds good.

thanks

in reality you "should" always run at least 4ga wire for any amplifier. this does two things.

1) allows the amp to get all necessary power it needs.
2) allows room to expand if you ever want to.(say adding a 400 watt amp and running component highs)

do not ever think that pushing an am is safe. build your system around being conservative. do not crank the gain all the way up on the amplifier please.

also are you using the stock HU? of not what type of aftermarket unit are you running?

I need to buy another h/u I have an aftermarket one, but it's garbage. Any suggestions?

I will get the 4 gauge kit. I don't know too much about adjusting the gain, etc. I've had a couple systems, but nothing like what this amp is capable of.

Also any suggestions on mounting the amp and cap. I'm not going to screw it into my sub box.

i use a Kenwood KVT 512. i love it. and it can be had for about 360 bucks.

for straight cd/mpe play? id suggest a pioneer with ipod connection

toss the cap in the garbage.

get some fiberbord and build yourself an amp rack.

I will get some fiberboard and carpet, then i'll figure out how to secure it.

I didn't buy a cap, but I was going to. I'm curious why you said throw it out? I don't know much about them.

I didn't know there was such a thing.
I know the amp i'm waiting for can push some power. My friends 800a2 had a birth sheet that was impressive. I didn't know more voltage = more power with the old rockfords.
Thank you and nice setup

I just looked up those batteries. There's so many different brands. How can I figure out what amperage battery i'd need? Any preference of brand on them too.

The only ones ive used are stinger. but any gel style battery for audio systems is ok.

you should be able to google a chart, the amperage will be according to the draw of your amplifier.

I thought I was going to be wiring the batteries parallel. Does it take the place of my battery? I just thought about that.
I also have to upgrade the wiring in my car, I remember reading about it on here.

I just have my amps mounted on my box. Doesn't take up a lot of space and its simple.

That's a solid amp. I'd probably go with 1/0 gauge power wire, and also be sure to upgrade all the positive and ground wires between the amp, body, battery, and alternator. It's a *****, but its worth it.

Don't waste you money on a cap. There's no such thing as an audio battery. Any good SHO battery will be just fine. If you want the best, go with Oddyssey. It might be wise to have your alternator rebuilt to give it some more output.

excuse me, no such thing as an audio battery?

are you sure?

cause i could swear that Stinger has made a company out of this.

he will not need anything more than 4ga wire for the power he will be pulling. he could go with 2ga(more than plenty for 800 watts) but i doubt he will need it.

the purpose of a second battery (such as the stinger car audio batteries) is so that you do not tax the battery running the accessories of the car. iirc the 92 still has the 90a alt. not exactly the best alt.

I've read a few different things about wiring in an audio battery. I'm not sure how i'd go about it.
I might just see if I can get a local rebuilder to make my alternator put out more amps, or swap in the 130 amp. Or should I buy a 200 amp?
