It could be the computer but I don't think so. It might be the transmission, shift solenoids, etc. The later computer isn't that great except maybe there are tuning strategies worked out for those that were already done. The '93 had the weakest atx of all the SHO's. You will learn the lingo and what everything does. SHO's make shade tree hack mechanics of most of us.

Well that's good to know haha. Maybe doing a manual swap would be worth it just for the future proofing? And I make it sound bad, but honestly, it just tends to stay in a high gear even when I put my foot down, causing sluggish acceleration, or it will upshift while accelerating in a low gear, lurching forward a bit. But for all I know, that's the biggest sign of a failing tranny tbh

Sounds like the car has a few issues. I would work on sorting those out before any mods. Worst thing you can do is dump all your money on toys and have something fail on the car that is a basic need. Start with fluid flushes, all your tune up adjustments, etc. Not near as fun sounding but, performance parts are only going to make things worse if you don't have a good foundation. Coming from the Gen 4 world, no one likes dropping $1000 here and a $1000 there for fluids, fuel pumps, coolers, exhaust, etc. However, once you get those in for a good foundation, the tuners can really open up and start making power. Each part builds on the other and if your foundation is stronger and not being forced to run on the ragged edge, when you add the performance, you will have more reliability and more power.

That's a fair assessment. I did my first fluid change over a year ago, but I couldn't drive the car because I didn't have insurance or plates yet. I've also added to some of the fluids since it had been sitting and was a bit low on some of them. But I'm going to do another one this weekend.
If I do all of this, and it performs better, I think I'll be happy

Tricky. That doesn't seem like alot but these tran$ units are not that great... I mean at this point I would roll the dice on a D4U1 computer and see if shifting improves. The rest is a mess. Have you tried a search with used car part search engines online? You can get access to junkyards around the country to look for hard to find parts. I'm not seeing any on ebay or on shosource. If you are able to find something I would call/email and double check the part is available and correct for the SHO model. These are getting scrapped/crushed over many years now so even used inventory has really decreased

Yeah, the only new websites I've found in months are the ones you linked somewhere actually. Once I can afford it, I might see if I can buy a manual and go from there
