well, i asked someone on ebay the same question, and the conclusion is that if the "head unit" style has the proper controls, then it would be a matter of changing pinouts on the connector. refer to this for further info

I used that guys site for reference when installing the express modules in my driver's door....good site...

guys i think i'm going to try to modify the football also this christmas break between semesters out here in Nebraska. either i'm just going to cut into mine or buy one from fleaBay, either way it's worth a try. chrome_rust has inspired me

maybe im just to confident after the console install but i'd rather be able to see my pretty eclipse sitting proud in the center of my dash than it being hidden. or its getting to dangerous changing the volume on it then messing with the ipod... :bonk:

i'll keep you guys posted if anything ever comes about it and if its possible to make molds.

Stereo Update- frustrating but progress made

Radio is disassembeled and has been fitted with eclipse. fits good into the dash. have final sanding and molding with body filler tomorrow after work. it looks very neat and i can't wait for it to be done.

this is a very hard and complicated project and for the most part is not worth it, unless you want to have a completely one off radio faceplate. pretty ******* though when it will be done. i have dialup for the next 3 weeks so pictures will be nill.

2 hours of deciding what and how to cut it, 3 parts to the radio: front, middle, back. 3 more hours later i have it finally cut and it resembles a radio ready for a 1 din receiver. 2 hours today of adding bondo to the rear and front of it and sanding it down smooth. 7 hours in two days. im expecting 2 more tomorrow to smooth it more and then another 2-4 hours of paint.

it would be impossible to mount a equalizer some where on the football. put it in the ashtray area or in the center console.

had to cut into the dash due to the cabin temp sensor being to far in on the right side, which required moving radio to the left 3/4" inch.

would be impossible also i believe to make this into a kit. theres just to much to be done besides the face.

heres what it looks like now

will add more shit tomorrow during the evening. hopefully fully boomin by friday. i have more pics before i added bondo but the dialup is just to slow for me to take it.

peace everyone

Get the free graphics program Irfanview 32.

http://www.irfanview.com/

Makes saving files in a smaller files size simple. I can save that same picture in the same physical size but only 45k vs the 120k original using a 50% compression ratio. This has very little degradation for Internet use.

so close....

I do go to UNL. Soph Industrial tech education You?
chrome rust is right the ribon cable has to be extended, mine lit up but none of the buttons besides the rear defrost, cause the cable was half pulled out. looks ******* though painted black. display panel didnt light up either :( i was very sad. if i could just extend it somehow and move it down infront of the ashtray i'd be set.

i have close to a week now into it after a good 4 hours of work on it today, painting, finish sanding etc. no pics as i was to much in a hurry to get it installed before it got dark (and cold out). that brings the total hours close to 12. sucks. i hope this thing will eventually work b/c the defrost comes on auto now w/ the eatc disconected. aka it gets frikin hot in there if you have to drive longer than 5 minutes

did find a nice thing though for the eclipse i wired it into the dash lighting and it dims, never knew i was supposed to do that always wondered why my preset buttons never worked.

but this is a weekend project so i will keep you posted with pics later

oops

Well found out the two circit boards can be seperated and still connected which created more room, great

Decided to add length to the cable with some small wire and solderless connectors, bad. didnt work as they were to big and there were 25 small 22+ gauge wires to connect. Then tried soldering, didnt work either as its just so tiny and i havent done it for a while. Not saying that i'm stuck but i did place a bid on a eatc radio on ebay to scrounge for parts if i can't get this thing fixed.

theres a cable that has to be extended to release pressure on the printed plastic board that the buttons press into. with it being so close it just creates a tremendous amount of strain and pulls a connector out of place. right now this pry makes no sense if you havent taken apart a eatc radio.

so you probably won't hear from me for a week or so as i scratch my head and try to figure out what the **** i'm doin. face plate does look good though turned out almost perfect. everything fit good too until i put the buttons and crap back in it. who needs hvac anyways???

i'll keep everyone posted on what happens. merry christmas to all and a happy new year

will try to get pics asap.

I give up. ordered another radio from ebay. It was way to much of a pain and simply adding it to the ash tray area seems so much more simple. sorry guys but it is just a mess. it looked neat but was completely non functioning.

Eclipseradio

I too have fallen with the ranks as believing the football is unmodifiable. But maybe someday... All in all it was a great learning experience.

Its not a very good location I guess...I know I will be starting my next audio project for the SHO...should be sicc when I get it all done. A aftermarket CD/DVD player would make the Gen III a lot more fun to drive.

the one main thought I have been having (as I have an ash tray radio) is finding a way to convert out ETAC to that of a Lincoln or the like. With that conversion move the ETAC to the ashtray and have the full football for the screen with the computer behind it. This is of course a pipe dream unless someone, myself included, can firgure out the ETAC conversion

theres really not that much room behind where the football resided, PATS module, other crap. i actually had the EATC short out when i pushed it back there one time when i tried to put it all back together. burned out the radio fuse which also takes out the speedo. wierd.
but if someone could convert that lincoln EATC you could make a double din faceplate fairly easy. and just get rid of the football all together.

wishful thinking!
