I parked my 2015 PP SHO in the garage for a couple of weeks. Went to drive it a few days ago; started her and the steering wheel was locked until I muscled it free. Then it was fine. Now every day its bound until I force it and it's fine until it's sitting for a few hours. Upstate New York, cold. But we've had worse. Any thoughts?

My guess, (electric) Steering rack on its way out. Be mindful it doesn't lock up while driving.

Electric assisted steering is essentially a giant window motor and through some magical technological way I dont fully understand, it senses the drivers input and provides muscle to help with steering, this is variable based on speed and settings. My wife's cobalt had a similar system to the SHO, same thing happened, weather got cold, steering became difficult, replaced the electric part and it was like new again. It would seem to me that what ever senses the driver input has started to fail, Im sure its one big assembly and probably better off freshening it all up at once. as always when equipment fails it becomes unpredictable, so I would also recommend being cautious until you have it fixed.

If I replace this myself (I'm capable), do I have to program it?
I just replaced mine on saturday and it worked without programming, but I did flash the as-built data from the original using forscan. I didn't update the firmware as I was a bit scared to try that and brick the rack. Just be prepared for exhaust bolts/studs to be a massive pain in the ass. Even here in texas I had enough rust on two bolts that it snapped one and we had to cut the other as the f l a n g e stripped.(somehow that word is censored...) Took like 2 hours to fix that issue, and altogether roughly 5.5-6 hours.

And I would look into replacing it asap as once you start having issues they come very randomly and if while driving you lose steering entirely as it straight up locks (like mine and others have). Also a good time to upgrade to the AD trans mounts since the old ones have to come out and will most likely be shot (my rear mount was no longer a single piece even lol)

I prefer the SS Machine trans mounts in Indiana . The are adjustable to tune out the NVH.. without the idle harshness

You're not getting a steering fault error on the dash? Mine did that every time it went out...until it wouldn't come back on anymore. Not a cheap fix, but you probably need a new rack.
