Stall converter for ATX

I'm looking into putting in a stall converter in my 95 SHO ATX ,It's been sitting for over 2yrs cause it needs a trans .I'm getting the tranny rebuilt but I wanna know if putting a stall converter in will improve performance ? as far as shifting

all converters "stall" it just depends on the rpm at which that occurs.

imho, the factory converter has a very good match to the engine. if you put in one that has a lower stall rpm, then it might do a little better on gas but performance would be reduced due to lower torque at lower rpms. if you put in a tc that has a higher stall rpm, then mileage will be reduced and the engine will be revving up all the time - I think that would get tiring to drive, but that is just my opinion.

well I was on shosource and they had different ones from :

street revs: 2200-2400 RPM stall

Junior Revs: 2600-2800 RPM stall

High Revs: (option for no lock up clutch) 3000-3400 RPM stall

High Revs Race: (no lock up) 3600-3800 RPM stall

they said the stock stall for the ATX is 2400 RPM but I was thinking about the junior rev stall

I always thought the stock tc was around 2400-2600 stall. Or maybe they just got that way by the time they had a bunch of miles on them. Anyway, I would not go higher than 2800 for a street / daily driver type vehicle. And for sure you want a lock up clutch if you drive it on the street or highway.

Yea i think I'm a go with a stall in it make it a lil unique some what are you located in pa? I'm near the reading and Pottstown area

The original converter in the SHO is about as good as it gets, and is already a higher stall rpm unit. There are many nice things you can do the automatic to give you a much better driving experience, but I would leave the converter alone.

So just rebuild the tranny and leave it alone ?

for starters:
1. all the maintenance that prior owners neglected.
2. better brakes, at least on the front.
3. larger rear sway bar.
