I have a lot of background info in this post so if your not interested in all of that the actual question is at the very bottom, Thanks.
First of all Thanks in advance for any advice/answers, this forum has proven to be an amazing source of information regarding the SHOs. I am new to shoforum.com but by no means new to the SHO world. I have spent countless hours on the Delphi forum back in the day (8 years ago) as 92greensho. I got out of the SHO world and dove into the Powerstroke world. But as Fate would have it a beautiful blue 94 ATX with a thrown rod bearing had fallen into my lap and reignited the SHO flame that has eluded me for some time.
After some craigslist work I now find myself with 4 SHOs in my garage.
1) 94 blue ATX, very clean but with a thrown rod bearing 130k
2) 94 white ATX pretty good shape with a bad trans136k
3) 94 red MTX in kind of rough shape with a bad motor mount, but good motor and trans 160k
4) 93 green MTX with a good motor and trans, but garbage body and interior 165k
including fuel to go get the cars I have less than $1300 into all 4. I also was able to acquire a 3.0 SHO motor that has never been in a car and has spent its entire life on a pallet in a heated storage building.
I am almost done swapping the good AX0D from blue into white so I can sell white for upgrade $. This leaves me with two options for the donor car. I have spent hours searching this site for any and all information on the ATX/MTX swap and have learned a lot but am still trying to decide which car to use as the donor. I have read that 93 and 94 harnesses are different but I don’t know if it’s a big deal.
I could pull the good motor mount from green, put it in red, and have a running driving 94 in decent condition worth maybe $1000 to sell. But then I would need to use the 93 as a donor and don’t know if that would be worth the added hassle of the 93 to 94 wiring change.
On the other hand I could use red as the donor, swap out all the harnesses and have a 100% 94 MTX. Then I would have to part out green because its not worth fixing so I would loose the money from selling a $1000 working car. And here in lies the question:
Question:
Are there any advantages to using a 94 MTX donor car as opposed to a 93 MTX donor to convert my 94 ATX to an MTX?
To those who have performed a swap, which donor would you use?
Thanks a lot for any advice. I am excited to be back in the SHO world, because now I have the money/space/tools and ability to do to my SHO everything that I wanted to do when I was younger.
