My interior trunk lever pulls up but nothing happens. Could it be stripped or the cable broken. What typically causes this? 93 ATX with 143K. I am sure age has nothing to do with it

Most likely the cable has either broken or pulled loose at one end.

The trunk lever actually works(unlatches the rear latch), the trunk just doesn't 'pop' up. I know there were three tention adjustment on the trunk in my Gen 1, and by moving it up a notch, it would cause the trunk to 'spring' more when you pull the lever. That's one thing I always meant to look at on that car, but never got around to....

The weight of the spoiler keeps the trunk from flying up, like in a regular Taurus sedan. Maybe the spoiler cars from the factory had stronger torsion springs in the trunk.

no, my car had a wing before it broke off and when i popped the trunk it would just unlatch and barely lift, now with the wing off it flies open.
Try looking on the latch, inside the trunk. The cable may have just come off. You might need a socket to get it off, just two bolts. Before you take it off, mark the position that it was in with a black sharpie, so you get it aligned correctly when you put it back on.
You should be able to see a black tube running to the side (passenger side) of the lock. The wire is in there.
If it's broken, you should be able to get a new wire from Walley's Pick & Pull there in Oshkosh. They have a TON of 92-95 Taurus' there, and I do know they have a black Gen 2, ATX there as well.
