Spark Plugs for Gen III

Hello to all,

I was considering upgrading to some better Spark Plugs and am wondering if anyone has a personal preference as to which ones. I've read up on the Bosch Platinum +4 and they seem to be pretty sweet. I have heard that the SplitFire will increase horsepower, but I've used those in my 98 Taurus (non-SHO, 24V DOHC V6), and they didn't make much difference.

Any ideas, should I also change out the Spark Plug Wire Set as well?

Well I was running the plat +4's, and I noticed that my car ran rougher at idle with no load (in park or N, then at stoplights with load (in gear.

I roasted 2 sets of those plugs, by roasted I mean heat scorched. At 6 bucks a plug you don't want to keep changing them. I am using autolight double platnum and the car is running better than with the +4's

Man, thanks for the info, but that kinda sucks, roasting plugs and all!!!! Are you sure that you had the correct gap rating? I know that Bosch sends them factory gapped for your car.

Well the plugs were white when I took them out of the car, I thought they were scortched, but tonight i found out it may have been improper air/fuel mixture due to my gutted MAF. I havn't had ANY problems with the car since...hope this helped...

Get Motorcraft Plugs

AWSF32FM (Only from dealer)

3.50 is what I payed from someone I know.

I had Bosch Plat. Regular, They were OK, but my car runs better and idles better now. Every Gen III owner that I have talked too said the original Ford plug is the best. I know agree with this theory.

I not one from buying dealer items but, I have to say these are the best on the market.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think from what I've heard so far, I'll just stick with stock (MotorCraft) plugs.

As they said, stick with the OEM plugs. FYI, the V8 SHO motor does not have spark plug wires. It uses a individual coils on each plug to fire the spark, as opposed to the older SHO's which have a single ignition coil that fires all the plugs and uses actual spark plug wires.

Thanks for all the info!! I ain't much of a mechanic, so I would have replaced something with the spark plug wires!!! Maybe I could use them as curb finders!!!

I'll be sticking with the OEM.
