I was driving aggressively tonight and snapped my exhaust right where the resonator connects to the y that connects to the 2 mufflers. Anybody done this before? I'm now dragging the resonator and my car is loud as all ****. It sounds like a freaking race car with the exception of the dragging noise. It looks to be a clamped connection that came loose somehow. Anybody experienced this? My thoughts are that maybe there is too much movement in the exhaust system that caused this kind of snappage, or maybe it's just rusted out and slipped off. What do you think?

Hehe :D Not on the SHO, but the time honored trick passed down from father to son throughout the years is to get out some bailing wire to hold that bitch up until you are ready to fix it. :D

How many here can relate to that?

It's called a doughnut gasket, mine went south and had a huge gap, wire will not hold it, gets to warm and stretches the wire out. But wire will hold it up just not catback and the Y together. Just bring it to a shop and have a new gasket put on costed me $40.00 to have that done.

I think I know what happened. I cut a turn tight and underestimated the difference between the road and the gravel/grass next to it. Damn big rigs lugging gravel and stuff from the quarry and all the repaving have gone unnoticed by me. I probably banged it when going around that turn. It didn't come off at that time, but shortly therafter. Man my car is loud and sounds racey as all **** besides the scraping sound of the pipe. I did have problems with the connection between the y and pipe previously, but this time it completely snapped further back. I probably banged it on that turn and it just so happened to come off.

No donut gasket.

haydenm is not talking about the y-pipe to resonator joint. He is referring to the joint between the resonator and the rear 'y-pipe' that goes to the muffs.

hadenm, just remove the clamp, find a new one, aforce the connection back together, and clamp 'er down. if you crawl under there you wil see just how simple it is. wink

Yes, it's very simple once you crawl under there. Hayden the same thing happened to me. My resonator was hanging about 1 inch lower than the rest of the exhaust leading to the mufflers. Just slide it back in place and purchase a clamp from AZ to seal it back up.

Hells yeah it was easy. I put on my dickies suit last night and had it repaired quite quickly. I was lucky enough not to bust the u clamp and just reused it. Damn thing was rusty, but I let pb blaster go to work on it. It fit up there pretty easily. After I loosened the clamp I proceeded to tap the y pipe until the little divet was to the end of the slot. After that I tightened it and it was all gravy. I went out for a nice little spirited test and passed. It definately gave me a scare to hear my car that loud, but it was cool at the same time. It roared like an angry lion king.

lol. I was turning 7K in 3rd when the y-pipe connection broke. I was sure i killed the engine, not only was it LOUD, there were also bad viberations, I thought it was over. a new clamp fixed that! :D

Initially I thought my radio was blowing up. I just couldn't fathom that much engine noise inside the cabin. I wonder what kind of power differences there were without the mufflers. I couldn't help but bang a few gears after I knew what was up. It seemed just as fast, if not a bit faster. The noise probably made all of the difference.
