as some of you know i'm shooting for high to mid 12's this spring in the 2 ton sled. my big problem now is traction. I can build full boost off launch (finaly) so now i'm going to need some serous rubber. I think I can further modify a set of cobra calapers to work with modified rotors to fit rims as small as 14". I have a set of 17X8's on the way for the upcomming SHO convention but they have roadcourse rubber on them.

anyway what lightweight rims are out there and what rims diameter do slicks perform best with? and what drag slicks seem to be doing the best this season?

basiscly I need a tire that will put down 350ftlbs+ of tq off a launch. i'm not oposed to running high boost for a couple of runs.

Your rim size will be governed by the diameter of your brake rotor. The stock 10.2" will allow a 15" wheel to be used. Overall daimeter should be int the 25.5" area. Slightly less will be required if you want to run a rim wider than 8".

For a 16" rim, Hoosier sells a DOT slick that will fit a 6.5" to 8.5" wheel. This would be the tire that put Josh into the 12 secaond range.

I think i may be able to modify my front brakes enough to fit a 14" if i need to. i don't want a dot tire I'm looking for a full slick but i don't know a lot about them. the only reason i'm looking for a full slick is that I would really hate to buy a $200-250 tire just to find out it isn't going to hook up for me. idealy a full boost balls out launch would be great but I don't think that will happen even with a slick should be close though.

Get some 26" (or 24" if you can)x10.5x15 slicks on 15" wheels. If you got power, you'll run 12's. I've used the hooser quicktime pro (sold them to Josh) they both put both of our cars in the 12's

I'd keep wheel dia. at 15 or 16, as 14'' DOT slick will not be easy to come by.

you could always try to find some 99 SHO wheels. they (according to V8SHO) only weigh in at 17lbs, and are 6.5'' wide. just another option.

LOL if you are trying to get 12's at the Track at the convention, good luck. 131 isn't the luckiest track of them all. SuperHO has a pretty well modded 95 MTX, and he was running a best of 15.5..

True, really though I don't know how I haven't snapped an axle in my car yet.

i'm actually having a tough time finding 15X8" rims any thoughts?

16x8 rims are only available in the SHO bolt pattern from one place as far as I know, ROH.

I doubt you'd be able to find a 15x8 anywhere.

I know Borbet makes a Type T in 16x7.5", I got a set for my wife's car. They don't feel any heavier with Kumho 711s on them than slicers do.

Slicks have such floppy sidewalls, and non flat tread contact patches, that you can put fairly wide slicks on skinny(er) rims than you normally would, for a street or a road race tire.

9.5" will fit fine on a 7", etc.

Probably more selection of wider 16" wheels. Some 16x8" you could sneak some 10.5 on there. 26x10.5x16 quick time pro's or ET streets.

You can always wipe off the painted white lettering on the sidwalls if you like to be sneaky :naughty:

they would be track only haha i'm not going to run on the street with the slicks. that is the last thing i need is to forget and take a turn fast.

I found some T-bird time 15X6.5 they are not exactly wide rims but how would a 8.5" slick hold traction?

I am looking into 16X8" options now though. how are the quicktime pro's? people around here seem to like them.
