I have a 93 ATX SHO, and I think OD is toast. What are the possible causes of the TX not engaging OD? My Cougar is a Five speed, I have no real experience with the AODE or whatever it is called when put into the SHO.

Well seeing that you have a 93' you have an AXOD-E transaxle, also known as the most unreliable transmission ever put in the SHO. :) There are many common problems on that transmission. Here are a few:

- Forward clutch piston breaks, leaving the car in neutral

- Lack of lubrication to the rear planetaries - causes the transmission to overheat and start slipping. (This is the most common problem for that year)

Like the Supercoupe/ XR7 there really is no "good" transmission available. Your best bet is to get a rebuild with a 99'+ valve body. This valve body has all the lubrication updates in it.

I like the other car too. :)

Yeah, not to knock the SHO or anything, but I love My Cougar, maybe someday I will feel the same about the SHO. AXOD-E eh, ok. thanks for the replies so far, I was just doing some digging, trying to find common problems for that tranny or other who have had the OD go and what was the problem and how the fixed it. As for the no good trannys the Five speed in my Cougar is nearly indestructable (aside for the weak @ss synchro's) it just shifts like total @ss and needs to have the synchro's replaced every second year . . . ok your right, there are no good trannys.

Check out www.shotimes.com and there's something on there about the 4th gear going out on the automatic and a easy fix your self that will get it back.
