SHOshop pulleys revisited

Gang..

Before we talked about the fact that she SHOshop pulleys might not fit, so using my trusty ruler, I'll going ot list the dimensions as I can so those of you who know better can tell us ifthis set, which is the set that is to be used for the GenIII, will fit or not.

ALT Pulley:

outside dia: 3.25"
Inside dia: 5/8"
width: 1"
5 ribs

width of interior: .5"

PS Pulley

outside dia : 6 3/16"
inside dia : 5/8" 17 teeth
width : 1"
width of interior : 5/8"

sooo....Will they fit or not???

I'm going to call the man in Houston about getting them done next week.

I'm not sure about the dimensions but I would bet that they won't. I just received my second replacement alternator pulley and it's the exact same. There is no way in **** that it will fit. I talked to the mechanic who attempted my pulley install the other day and he said that the problem was that there wasn't enough thread to bolt the pulley on. I'd ask for your money back.

I just got off the phone with them to make sure these will fit before I drive 3 hours to have them installed. The person I spoke to ( Tim ) told me that there were some cars that had different alternators, thereby causing some to not fit. I am going to be talking to Tom later on this evening to hopefully resolve this, wish me luck.

If the problem is the inner width of the pulley, then I am hoping they can take this back and re-machine it properly, maybe if you had the correct width we could let them know.

Tom from SHOshop called me back and told me that the pulleys were sourced from a 96, therefore, I should have no problems with fitment. He went on to tell me that the later years will need to be milled a bit to make up for the room.

I'll let you all know sometime monday night after I get them installed, wich me luck!

Call big Tom back and tell him the pulley is to big. Ford Made the shaft smaller. Im sure he is aware of that and just flipped it around. Im sure he would not give information about something like that.

Word of advice dont pay anybody, you have a oversized pulley it wont fit the shaft. Send it back and ask that they create a pulley that works.

Im not trying to be demenaing (SP) here but I have to explain it like this.

I don't see your comments as demeaning, afterall, you speak as if you know what your talking about, obviously you've already been through this.

Fact is, if I drive 3 hours to Houston tomorrow, sit there for hours while my car is ripped apart only to find out that I wasted my day off for nothing, the SHOshop will be hearing from me, and if restitution isn't made, they might be hearing from my lawyer. Tom assured me that they will fit, so his proffessional opinion will be taken as fact.

If I had gobs of time, a friggin autoshop in my garage and a shop manual, I may have tried this on my own, fact is I don't, fact is, I have a car no one seems to know jack shit about around here, so I'm stuck taking people's word and driving 3 hours to some other city. To say that this sucks is an understatement.

Tom said he browses this board, so Tom, if you are reading this, and you don't think these pulleys will fit, I suggest you contact me before Monday moring to let me know, or else you will have one ****** off customer to deal with.

Aside from all of this, Kirk, the comments about pulley fitment seem to stem from the shaft not being long enough to get a bolt on, you're saying that the shaft itself isn't thick enough for the pulley to remain on tight enough to actually spin the alternator?

Tom said that the alts were changed in 97-99 from the 96's. You are telling me that they are in fact, the same?

I wonder, if I drove down to autozone or something and asked for a replacement alt they would let me try to put the pulley on to see if it fit?

Yeah, send it back. I find it sad that the shoshop can't even make proper pullies for your cars. Definitly make them fix it or refund you the cost including the time you have lost. They screwed us duratec with the duratec pullies. We just get one which replaces the crank/balancer for the same place you get yours. Plus Tom even posted saying that the single duratec pulley doesn't touch the balancer, then a month later he markets the shoshop kit with multiple pullies so that the balancer isn't touched. Personally, he's lost my respect as a knowledgeable person. Good luck with your dealie.

Well I have a late 97 build date of 8/97. and they dont fit, Ian Manncomb (SP) I belive has a 96 and his dont fit so I dont know what to tell you. The auto parts places list one alt not two. good luck dude I hope it does work and that Tom has corrected the problem.

Thanks go to the wrath-of-God rainfall we've been having, I never made it to Houston.

I probably won't be able to get there for another week or so, instead, I WILL go and seek out an alternator to test this pulley on, if I have to look at two of them, so be it.

I probably won't know until I actually hook it up to my own alternator, but mroe research in this is probably worth it.

Mine's a '97 with a build date of 08/96 IIRC. That would make it one of the earlier '97s. I've got a couple of extra alternator pullies if someone wants to try it on their car I'll send one out.

I've got three alternator pullies that appear to have the exact same measurements. I haven't measured it but I've eyeballed them and I don't see how there could be any difference in size.

The SHO Shop isn't on the ball. They've ****** me and I will being seeking restituition.
