Some of you may remember that I posted about the Oil Light coming on. Well, We (rakarb, RogueStang, and myself) figured out what it was.
After replaceing the sending unit, (looks fairly new) we fired up the engine to get a small stream of oil from where the factory oil cooler is. Upon further inspection we noticed a small crack in the mounting bracket(?) for the cooler. Closer inspecting showed that whoever replaced the previous sending unit overtightened it. The cracked started on the inside threads (where is screwed into the bracket) and down the outside of that neck. There was at least one more stress fracture (hairline crack).
When we installed the new sending unit to the factory specs of torque. 9-12ftlbs. It also appears not to thread flush to the rest of the bracket. When the new one arrives we'll have a closer look to see any further differences between the 2.
