Just a note to let you all know about some of the upcoming changes that will be happening.
I'm in process of purchasing new software for the forum. True database type software which will increase the speed of the forum, make searching must easier and faster as well as cut down on wasted bandwidth.
Since our forum is very large, I'm paying the software company to convert the forum. There will be less chance of any lost data as a result of this.
There are certain things that you as users should be aware of before the conversion process begins. I'll try to give you all as much advance notice as possible before it begins, but I would think that we will have possibly a 3-5 day down time for pre-conversion backup, the conversion itself and a day or so for me to get things the way I want them to be after all that is done.
Things that are different with the new software:
Login names:
Currently we are able to have a login name and a displayed name. The new software only has one and it will only convert the displayed name you have chosen. Once the switch is complete you will need to use your displayed name to login.
Private messages
All private messages will be lost. If you have important ones you wish to keep, please copy and paste them to a text file or email file now. Don't wait until the last minute.
Pictures and attachments
We don't use attachments with our software, but some of the pictures links may get lost in the conversion. They should remain, but it is possible that they get dropped off.
That's about all I can think of at the moment that needs to be passed on other than I will be turning certain features on and off, some forums may go away and then come back, etc. etc. Please be patient during these times. If you think it's whacky for you, jump on over here in my shoes and I'll show you whacky.
All I can really say is that the new software is kickass. It will be a great thing. There will be a period of time after it's installed that I'll have to learn how to use the new features, but after that I expect clear sailing.
