I haved owned my 2011 SHO for several months now and as much as I have tried, I haven't even been able to get any action on the streets. Not even a stop light romp or a highway fly by. Most of the time I am with my wife and two kids so I wouldn't have done anything anyway with them in the car.
(I posted this on another forum where they don't know much about the SHO)
My SHO has three different settings. The normal setting that is the default from the factory so any schmuck can drive it without any experience. Second, you can disable the traction control to let the AWD loose. Finally, there is an Advance tracking system that you can disable to get 100% of the engine's power to the tires. This is verbatum from the car's owner's manual. It requires that it be disabled when the car is at a complete stop, brake depressed, and it takes about 10 seconds to do. It unleashes the evil from within the Taurus SHO. Whenever I would take the car out I would disable the Advance tracking system at the end of my driveway.
My wife would ask.."What do you need all the engine's power for going to Wal-Mart?"
Me-"Hush woman, you never know when I will get my first race."
Wife-"Estas loco.."
This past weekend we drove down to Orlando Florida in the SHO. We found this awesome authentic family owned Cuban restaurant on line and decided to do carry out dinner. I punched in the adress on the navigation and away I went. Racing and disabling the ATS was the last thing on my mind. I had to jump on the turnpike to get there. I turned on to the on ramp which was about a half mile long merge. It was two lanes wide and banked. I look into the rear view mirror and see a white Nissan GT-R. I scream "Fawk!!!" I had forgotten to disable the ATS!!! The GT-R nailed it, I nailed it....we both went screaming around the inclined curve with him on the inside and me on the outside. We were side by side pushin 100 mph but when we reached the apex of the curve with the most inertia....the fawkin SHO traction devise shut down the power Once the car got on the straightaway it screamed again and I got on his side. Yes, I lost. The GT-R is a serious machine. I probably won't get another chance at him ever but I did get the consolation prize....a delicious Cuban dinner.
