Hello guys, I am looking into building a V8 SHO and I was wondering if the pistons were durable enough to withstand double (or even more) the stock horsepower. The SVT Contour's Duratec 25 which shares the same bore x stroke and a majority of block dimensions of the V8 has 10:1 hypereutectic pistons. These should withstand increased horsepower fairly well, my only question is does the 3.4 V8 share these pistons or are they a different material/design?

I think your limiting factor will be transmission durability.

There are many reasons not to do this. as mentioned, transmission issues and availibility of replacement parts/engines/transmissions etc. However if none of that is a limiting factor boost it up. There might be some info on v8sho.com about one or 2 boosted v-8 SHOs

Many years ago there was some talk of using Contour pistons in the V8 cars. I think the thought was to use the slightly larger bore for a slight power boost. I imagine the Contour pistons were similarly designed and constructed so similar reliability would also be expected.
