sho under the weather

I'm not really sure why my SHO is doing this, but I thought maybe it was because I put low grade gas in it last week. What it does, is whenever I try to accel, it doesn't go, it just stalls for a second, then picks back up and goes. Its really annoying, especially when trying to get across intersections or when people are trying to "Race" me. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas why it would be doing this...

Could be crappy injectors, could be o2 sensors. Buy some injector cleaner...fill your tank with PREMIUM gas with the cleaner and see what happens. Is your check engine light on?

ATX???....when is the last time you had your tranny fluid/filter changed?

If it's BP gas, I'd bet on it. It's possible at any station, but I won't touch BP gasoline with a ten foot pole. Even though all gas is basically the same, I've heard of more people getting that "bad tank" syndrome from BP than any other gas station. More realistically, check to make sure you MAF is plugged in. Have you gotten a check engine light recently? That would be ab obvious sign the car has stored a code, but I think more codes DON'T throw a CEL than DO throw one. It could honestly be a number of things, and without more information it's hard to tell.

Hey Kasey,

I see you had to change your "displayed name". I am pretty sure it is not from low octane gas because the SHO is designed to run well on low octane(unless you advance the timing). The quality could be another story though.

Your problem could be ignition, maybe a wire, plug, coil, DIS.... Fuel injectors clogged, fuel pump, filter.... Other than that, maybe your MAF needs cleaning.

I would never use 87,89,or 91...I stick with 93, if I'm goin to the track I use 97 w/octane boost. Premium gas is better...especially for a driver who is a little more aggressive than most. Burns cleaner, smells better, better for engine. I'm not crazy about having my engine shit the bed

Your problem sounds more fuel related than spark. I would check your fuel pump/filter. Does it make a loud noise when you turn on your car. It might have something to do with a clogged injector like mentioned previously. My 89 did this and when i replaced the fuel pump/filter no more hesitation. My 91 also does this. I am going to replace the pump this weekend and i am pretty sure that will do the trick. The pumps usually go around 100K and 175K. Good luck. thumbs_u

My 89 had similar symptoms from a failing O2, but you should check the codes first. If an O2 is bad it will probably throw a code. If it is O2's, I believe www.fordpartstore.com has the best price on them.

You are waisting your money. I use to use 91(highest available in AZ, unless you want to spen $5 for 100 octane) Unless you have a chip, the extra octane is not helping you out.

I got results that might help you from new plugs/wires. First run your codes, and if nothing comes up, it may be them. How old are they? My SHO used to stutter when revved a little bit before this was done.

my car did this too, it wasn't quite as bad as your car was doing it tho, I changed out my MAF and it was fine after that.

I was wrong in my earlier post, there is no 91 octane where I usually get my gas, I stick w/93. If I'm wasting a extra 5-8 cents a gallon...Booo ***** ***** whoooo.....

My SHO was doing the same thing yours is... It would start right up and idle/run fine until I tried to give it some good throttle. It would jump out, cut out, and come back to life. I installed a new "MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR" from Auto-Zone ($75.00), and the car has been perfect ever since

You can run the codes with a piece of wire (or a paper clip as was mentioned). No scanner required.

If you want to see if your MAF may be the culprit, try unplugging the sensor and driving the car. You will get the CE light, but if the hesitation goes away, the MAF is most likely the problem.

Instead of throwing money into parts that you're not sure will fix your problems, find someone nearby who will stop by and do the "parts swap" with you. Swap a part, try it out, see if that fixes the problem, etc.

Where in KY are you? If you're anywhere near Cincy I'll gladly help you out.

Okay we ran the scanner, this is the codes we found:
177 EGO not switching
211 PIP
214 Cylinder ID circuit problem
542 EC to ground
556 Fuel pump relay
557 fuel pump prime rate
thats the majority of them, even though there were quite a few showing up.
