SHO seems slower

Occasionally my moms 98 seems to not take off like it used to when you give it WOT. Lately it seems to be all the time. The car only has 28,000 miles on it. Any ideas? I mean a stick jeep cherokee kept up with me which I thought was odd. Also the fuel gauge fluxuates alot when you are getting low on gas or sometimes even with a good amount in there. Someone told me this could be the fuel pump and that its covered under the emissions warranty so I can get that checked out?! If it is the fuel pump going out that would explain why it seems to be getting slower. Thanks

reset the PCM, then take it out for a **** ride. its the adaptive nature of Ecc-v to learn the drivability of its driver. in your Moms case a slow easy driver.

Well.
Too drastic a change may really confuse the bull.
So, gradually teach it variety. It should go to redline now and then...
Do not, do not, just idle and rev it though. Please do not do this,,you will damage the cams.

I believe you are misinformed snowwind. Revving will not damage the cams. Also, there is a 4k rev limiter on all ATX sho's that wouldn't let you do it anyways. If there was no rev limited, and you revved in neutral or park to your hearts content, you could possibly damage the transmission torque converter, but that's after alot of revving.

If you disconnect the battery, drain it, let stand, run the lights, etc... then reconnect it right before doing 1/4 mile runs will the car be at it's best? Or do you need to "set it" before it learns to be it's best?

Big question down here at the track. burn_out

The EEC-V/OBD II on the 96+ SHO's are adaptive. Resetting the PCM by disconnecting the battery or pulling the EEC fuse clears all the car's learned values. After that point, everything you do is relearned by the PCM as a new value. I'd think that it would be beneficial to wipe out all the old values before making a series of passes at the track. The car will perform better with each successive pass after that point IMHO.

Dave, I did that once to **** a myth. The myth was it would reset into a WUSS mode and you would have to teach it. It the other way around it resets to a aggressive mode.

Milked it to the track 15.4
Reset the PCM and ran within 10 mins 15.2

Cool, looks like another switch is in order. I've heard you guys bandy this about b4, but once again please; to reset the PCM, disconnect the battery, turn on the lights (to completely drain), and wait how long before it will reset itself?

Just proir to the exhaust contest I had disconnected the battery. When I reved up the beast to a whopping 4k it belched black smoke on everyone behind me. I agree it runs better without any granny driving data in the tables.
