Hey guys,
Just purchased a sct 3015 for my 97 sho and I was wanting to know who could make custom tune files? I have looked at 5star and various other vendors that told me they cant make tunes for my car. I just hope I didn't buy this tuner for nothing.

Torrie is a good place to start. Paul Nimz would know something as he was working on tuning for a little bit. His forum name is SHOZ123

I also have the ability to write SCT tunes, but since I am not a "official" SCT tuner, it costs me $300 just to unlock the pcm, before I even start looking at changing anything... so it's not cheap.

I have had an X Cal2 and an X Cal 3 from Doug Lewis at Ford Performance Specialists in the Atlanta area for several years.

I feel I have gotten everything I expected and more. Both are still working fine, and when I had a few questions regarding changes in my states' emissions laws, Doug was right there to explain what was up and offered to help me work with any changes I may need, years outside of any obligation to warranty.

the tuner actually came with a pre-loaded tune that seemed to make a difference surprisingly. I am also able to tweak timing, a/f ratio and shift pressures. After a couple days running the tune the check engine light came on and the car started chugging at cruising speeds, pulled the code p0402 + p1519. I unplugged the imrc box so i dont understand why i got the p1519. As far as the p0402 i thought maybe the tuner was messing with something, so i returned the vehicle to stock but the chugging is still there between 40-55 steady speed. Other than that it still drives like its supposed to. I know it means excessive egr flow and recently replace the egr valve and dpfe sensor so it seems strange. Any ideas? did I screw something up?

If you unplug the IMRC and do not hold open the butterflies, I think they fail to closed mode, which would leave you a bit air starved at speeds.

Sorry i should have mentioned, Ive had them wired open for a couple months no cel, and only after installing the tune the cel came on for them. I will check and make sure the wire didn't break though.

Did you ever find a good tune? Im contemplating getting an sct. Even if the preloaded was noticeable, im late to the sho but maybe someone will still chime in here lol.

Don't waste your money. There isn't enough to be gained for the price. Be good to this thing because I have no idea if transmission parts are available and maybe engine gaskets too. You have the car with the least amount of engine parts available. This was a waaayy lower than 89-95 SHO production run for engines and trnsmissions. Truly the most orphaned car of any SHO run.

Cometic Gaskets are available on SHOSource along with valve cover seals, if thats even a concern.
Transmission parts are available, but not inexpensive. These cars aren't all that different from the continentals as for the tranny, assuming you want to stick with the AX4N. It was used in cars up to 2007 (4F50N).
If you are attempting to keep things OEM definitely recommend finding a donor car at a junk yard and grab the engine if you can.
Otherwise its not too complicated to transition to alternative parts or retrofits.
Suggest joining the facebook groups as more participate there these days.

I use the TweecerRT, but the SCT should work good. Until you start changing parts, there probably isn't too much to be gained from those. You can firm up shifts and get some better start times, change the fuel maps for better economy or disable to top speed governor or other items.
If you are really looking at changing things without a need for emissions I recommend going with an aftermarket ECU of your choosing. You will get more control and support.
