I just recently swaped out my intake and put on another intake, one that I had painted up. I did reuse the secondiers part of the old intake (so thats not painted). But the snakes and tanks are painted, and that lil piece that bolts to the tanks, has 2 hoses on it.
I also swapped the valve covers with painted ones. I used new fel pro gaskets for VC and intakes. I also replaced the plgus and wires with motocraft fine wire plugs and some taylor wires thunder volt from sho source. I gapped the plugs to .44 or .044, what ever it is. And I used the blue rtv gasket stuff on the VC and the plug well seals. Did not use any on the intake stuff.

Now after putting all this back togehter, it was night time and all i had was a flash light. Im positive i hooked everything back to where it went. As I cant find any extra hoses dangling or any extra niplles that need a hose on. And all electrical are hooked on as I cant find any wires dangling or any that need something connected on.
Now we start it up and after letting off the gas, it idals down and stalls out. I assumed it would do this for a few mintues. BUt it continues to do it, when ever the car is started. After keeping the gas down a lil for about 15-30 secs, it will idal on its own at about 6-800.
So my question is why is it starting rough and wants to stall out unless it warms up first. Im just thinking about turing up the idal screw a lil on the TB.

The plugs and wires have never been changed since we had the car (2-3 maybe 4 years)

Thanx for any help or info with this :salute:

Do not adjust the idle screw. The problem is from you removing and reinstalling stuff or a new malfunction. Retrace your steps and look for incorrect routing of plug wires, vacuum leaks, loose grounds, etc.

yeah i wont be touchin the throtle screw. but still as of now gthe problem only occurs when the car is cold and it starts up. Just need to give a lil gas 1000-1100 rpm for about 15-30 secs and let off and it idals fine 7-800 rpms no sputter or anything. but if i dont give it any gas at first it will stall out with in 1 sec, everytime, until its mildly warmed up.

Also this is my dads car not mine (although i keep refering it as mine). This problem isnt too big a deal for now, but im kinda worried if it get worse in the coming months when winter sets in, here in NY

did you tighten the couplers befor you tightened the intake down? if so you need to loosen everything back up and tighten the intake first then the couplers. if not then once you get it to stay running spray some brake cleaner around the intake if idle rises you have a vac leak

Well the problem is still their.
I have today, loosened up the couplers and retightend, casue when i installed it, i pretightedn everything before, but didnt loosen and retighten.
And im assuming the IAC is the round cylinder shaped thing on the plenum , that sits right where the plenum splits to the 2 tanks on the sides. And yes it is attched, but i also painted and installed the plate the it bolts to. Which has to ******* coming off of. Is it possible I put it on backwards, and could casue this problem? Maybe i flipped it over and put it on backwards. Or can it only really go on one way? And the hoses that attach to it, maybe i mixed those up? Can someone show a pic or explain which hose goes to which ****** on the bottom of the TB?

We (or my dad anyways) was willing to live with this small problem but we come across another problem, than cant wait. We now have a clogged converter, on the rear head converter. These cats and y-pipe are brand new and are a custom SS set-up with dynomax cats.
But Im woundering if the problem with the car has somehow clogged up the cat. Maybe oil is leaking in somehow. IDK? I dont even know what can cause a cat to clog. Maybe its a bad cat (i can only hope)?
Im thinking it may be the motor when we swaped the intake & valve covers. But I knoe for FACT I used the blue RTV gasket sealer on the VCs and the spark plug wells along with new gaskets. It did smear a lot when tring to install the VC.

Is it possbile oil is getting into a spark plug well and causing the cat to go bad??
