I'm going to be changing out the rod bearings soon and I was wondering if I should just put standard size bearings in. Do I have to gauge them or can I get away with not doing that? thanks

Most likely you will use standard size bearings. I would use some plasti-gauge to check the clearances. The last two cars I did, I did not measure them and have not had any troubles. I have also seen a guy spin a rod bearing 800 miles later and he did not measure the clearances.

I am willing to bet you will end up needing standard size bearings given your milage in your other post, but I would measure just to be sure.
