So, I was about to do this, should I do the mains too?

What should I look at to make this decision?

I personally don't want to do it, but if I can find if they are bad easily then I will do it.

I will be putting money down on a wave track too, so I don't want to pull the tranny twice.

Ok, thanks for the reassurance, I will tackle those bad boys when I do the tranny. I just need to stop listening to people who don't know the sho as well as they think.

is there an easy way to check the mains without ripping it all apart?

I dont have any knocking or anything like that, just want to be sure :)

Do the rod bearings. Don't touch the mains, no good can come of it.

I have... Several of them. But most people are missing the equipment that causes this.

lol x2..

with boost.. you might wanna check em..

without.. no need.. mine looked fine at 168k when I tore that motor apart.. the one with the grenaded piston even didnt have any large signs of wear..

When your doing the rod bearings, you can pull one of the main caps and check the bearing out. This costs you nothing. I would check #3 main, along with the thrust bearings.

Not so much "boost", but the tightness of the belt attached to the "booster".

heh, well, Im going to be putting an under drive pulley and I dont want it to blow up or anything.

doing a lot this month, rods bearings are done now, next is the timing belt and tensioner.

Stupid noise I thought was the rod bearings ended up being the cats, they are blown yet again.. blahhh...

Might be something useful to tell mr Cobra here when he gets his timing covers replaced.. :) He said he'll be bringing that monster over when its done. :) I can't wait. He wants a ride in a SHO, and I want a ride in that Cobra.. fair trade I think.

I have cobra wheels, so I get the best of both worlds :D

My SHO had SVT wheels on it before the guy realized he might wanna sell those seperately.. :( Almost had em. lol

they are sexy, i just need to figure out what size tires to put on, something with some decent side wall.

I think you would be wise to check the timing belt tensioner before tearing off the oil pan.

I'd bet $5 that's your problem. Rod bearings don't make noise for very long.

just quoting this from another post so it is here...
