After 15 years of ownership, I am looking to replace my wifes 95 SHO. Not with another SHO. We were thinking fusion, but my wife has been in sedans for 20 years and I would like to bless her with what she wanted. Her being the awesome wife she is wants me to like it too. She would like a CRV, but noted that it drove like a gutless turd the road and even worse at my high altitiude,. She said "you have always put me in cars with scoot, so get something as quick and something you like too". No this doesnt mean WRX or anything. It means crossover that I would 'tolerate'.

We are looking at the VW Tiguan. Test drove the oldest one in flagstaff. 2011 (I'm looking 2009 or 10). That 2.0T gives a nice 200 hp option that is safely and simply modified via chipping if needed/wanted. It was plenty of pick up for the wifey. Unfortunately I'm not finding too many FSBO Tigs in the Phx area. Edge's are very nice, but very spendy for what you actually get miles wise.

Thoughts on the Tig? Legit options? An ecoboost edge woudl be great....those are out of our price range. 2009 or 10 Tig SE are in the sub 20k price (at least those that are almost 500 miles away! I dont need to drive that far. Anyone know any Tigs For Sale near Phx you that arent already on Autotrader and Craigslist?

Wouldn't discount the Edge, but if you can buy it Ford Certified, would be better. Plenty get up and go with the Cyclone engine. Would definitely pay attention to brakes/upgrading at least the pads. Might be a little tight for larger derrieres. That's my driving impression.

driven both, like both Mike.

you know how big I am, and I found the edge to have sufficient head-room/leg room/spare tire room in the front seats, I'd actually say the edge interior wise is comparable to the gen 1, gen 2 explorers.

Why fight it?

Subaru Forester XT. I can't think of a better car for Flagstaff. You'll blend in with the tree sitters but have more than enough turbo charged power to escape in case they start trying to talk to you.

It's rare, but there is a manual version.

Mike,

My wife has driven the Edge on several occasions as driver of the relatives in Chicago and Michigan. Even though she loves her Expedition with the 3-Valve 5.4 (that variable intake control is amazing), the Edge was very comfortable and had plenty of zip with 5 adults inside.

I think you should research the cost of ownership of both, maybe even a third choice like a Lexus RX350 (or it's Toyota equivalent) and do a cost analysis.

Another thing to keep in mind is what you will be doing with the "new" vehicle down the road. Will you be giving it to Rachel or Josh as a college vehicle? That was our agreement with our Jessica; you get good enough grades to get a scholarship(s) to UofA and we'll buy you vehicle of your choice. She ended up wanting our 99 Expedition, even with its 100K miles. She still has it and it is working great with her two kids and 175,000 miles. Just something to think about.

Oh, as a previous owner of a 2.0T VeeDub, I would strongly caution you. My wife's Bug, once the 100k mark hit and the warranty ran out, never left me feeling completely comfortable with it's reliability.

And I own a SHO, so I know about unreliability.
