I have done some searching on here and not seeing anything related to this issue...

My remote start works fine. Unlock the car and push the start button and the car shuts off. Push the brake, hit the button, starts right back up.

I've tried getting in with both keys (one at a time) same result.

Owner's manual doesn't seem to offer any insight. Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks!

Out there somewhere
From the 2016 manual, not found in the 2011 manual:

Note: If you remote start your vehicle with
an integrated keyhead transmitter, you must
switch the ignition on before driving your
vehicle. If you remote start your vehicle with
an intelligent access transmitter, you must
press the push button ignition switch on the
instrument panel once while applying the
brake pedal before driving your vehicle.

No luck this morning. Pushed the brake and start button at the same time. Shut off.
I keep wondering if has something to do with a valet mode?

No need to do them at the same time, but you do need to apply the brake BEFORE and while pressing the start button. Is there a chance when you tried it you might have pressed the Start button before the brake pedal position switch registered?

try putting the fob in the backup slot in the center console before pushing the start button.

I tried pushing the brake first. That shut the engine off.
I tried putting the key in the center console holder. Again, shut off.
The car came with 2 keys, I tried bringing the other key with me and doing the same things. No luck. It seems like I have to be missing something.

pushing the brake first is the right thing to do if you dont, under normal operation, it will turn the car off.

looks like no matter what action you take the car wants to shut off.

if it is a pats issue, that would point to the pats ring or one of the antennas, very rare to have go wrong.

certainly hope it is not the bcm. sometimes when there are no codes, the module is actually faulty - based on my experience with 90s sho ecms lol.

When all logic doesn't go anywhere its time to start looking in weird places.
•you mentioned valet mode, have you changed any settings relating to the remote start or starting functions?
•have you tried tripping the safety measures? Pop the hood after you remote start it, should shut off. This gives an indication of what parts are working properly
•have you tried to just pull it into gear without touching the start button?
•do you have forscan? Maybe you can check settings and look for soft codes. My remote start wouldn't even start the car for a period of time due to a misfire that was logged.

Time to get a Windows laptop and spend $12 for a Forscan license, grad one of the cables @Texas Marauder recommends, check the settings in the system. Possibly what @Junkyard_Mad-Scientist has also, time to reset the settings from the steering wheel and dash controls? Try turning the Remote Start off, and see if it tries to start or not.

Reset the keys - make them both admin, and rule out valet.

Forscan Programming

EDIT -- Just realized that Forscan option link for the Body COntrol is showing 12-19.... hmmm

If it makes you feel any better. My Mercedes is programmed to do the same thing. Nothing I can do about it. Also in England, they don't allow remote start.
