5W20 is for sissies! J/K! That is for the Naturally Aspirated engines, not for the Ecoboost lineup.

For the Ecoboost engines, you need to put in 5W30. Manual says Motorcraft SynBlend is OK for the OCI (normal driving conditions), but I believe over time, it won't be enough. A full synth from Amsoil, Royal Purple, Pennzoil PUP or P+, or Quaker State UD, or Mobil 1 or Valvoline or Castrol Edge at the very least if sticking to 7500 OCI. 5,000 or less you can get away with SynBlend, again in normal driving conditions.

If you are an aggressive driver, stick with full synthetic, get used oil analysis done to see at what mileage you absolutely should change the oil (but don't go over 5K for the filter if FL500s). Highly recommend 5K or less even on full synthetic in these conditions (special operating conditions).

Got to remember, oil is what makes timing work, and if timing is off, just like anything else in life, it can screw you over.

if you drive like a normal person, the 7500 mile oil change interval is just fine for the Motorcraft synthetic blend oil. that is exactly what the factory recommends.

if you drive like a race car driver, then follow the hard duty recommendations.

99% of our Lincoln customers follow the 7500 mile interval and we use the Motorcraft semi-synthetic oil and have had no issues. cars that have had oil changed at the discount places are a different story.

What should one expect to pay for these oil changes? How much for the full synth and how much for the blend?

Im coming up on 5K miles and trying to decide what pattern i should follow going forward for a '16.

5K synth or blend
or
7.5K synth or blend.

I drive 85mile round trip mostly highway from 70-90ish mph M-F. so around 2K/month.
So many conflicting opinions...

Since you drive mostly highway, if you are not frequently vrooming, you'd probably be ok with Motorcraft (or other name brand) synth blend even out to 7.5K. But a full synth would give you that safety margin regardless of how you drive. If I were using synth blend, I would probably change the filter every 5K and top off the oil, just my thing :)

5K, again, Synth Blend should be fine in your driving conditions, Full Synth better in the long run tho no question.

Either way, use a good oil filter, Motorcraft works well.

Costwise, at the store, synblend and full synth are only a few dollars apart if that for 5 quart jugs. So I don't expect to pay any more than that at a service shop. I prefer to take my own oil if they won't yield.

One other option is Motorcraft full synthetic. It's not cheap, but it's convenient if you are getting it changed at the dealership. I have a handful of free oil changes from the dealer and just pay for the upgrade.

I use Redline oil and I change it with less than 5k miles on it. I understand it is a bit more expensive, but my thought is oil is cheap insurance and I want the best coverage :)

Is it general consensus that a full synth 5w30 at 7.5K miles is a fair compromise?

If im driving 22K/year its 3 changes vs 4 or 5.

Im not trying to nickle and dime the oil in a 40K car... Just trying to do what makes most sense and keeps me out of the dealership as few times as possible..

The Lincoln dealers nationally are expected to always offer the "special" pricing of $39.95 for the Motorcraft semi-synthetic oil, Motorcraft filter (if Motorcraft has one for that vehicle), tire rotation and multi-point inspection. That is on passenger vehicles. I would check the website or call to confirm that the honor that, but they are expected to by Lincoln.

I run Mobil one full syn extended range and Mobil one filter and change when the oil life monitor says too, usually around 10k. I don't track her and about 70% highway miles.
