My Gen II was rear ended.... after the repair, I had noticed a few things and I'm not quite sure if it's normal or not.

Is there supposed to be any gaps at the bottom of the tail light? I can almost fit my finger in the groove and slide it across the bottom. I
've been looking at some regular taurus in used car lot and everyone seemed to have gaps, but not nearly as big. Is there supposed to be any gaps?

i have a gap and i think most of the otheres here do too, but yours sounds pretty big. maybe you just need to rig the bumper cover to lift up a little.

Just checked my '95. There are two possible areas that you might be referring to, I'm not sure which one you want, the gap between the light and the plastic fascia that goes between the light and bumper and holds the license plate, or the distance between the bumper and the plastic fascia. Between the light and the fascia the gap is slightly smaller than the fascia and bumper. In both cases, I cannot get my index finger to go in past the fingernail. (Only about halfway up the fingernail.) I'd estimate the light-fascia gap at about 5mm. You might want to have the body shop look at adjusting it, if possible.

One caveat: My SHO was tapped from behind on Saturday and has not yet been fixed  , but the gaps appear about the same as before the collision. There are a few scratches on the top of the bumper, which leads me to believe that the top of the bumper might rest up against something (fascia) farther in where we can't see, and the only reason that there is a gap is due to the shape of the bumper and fascia.

Just realized that this has got to be one of the longest posts possible to answer this question, but hey-it's my first post and what I don't have in quality, I have to make up for in quantity!

Good 1st Post!
There is actually no visible gap between the part holding the plate and the bumper itself. I don't remember seeing that there is a gap there either from 3 years ago, when I originally purchased the vehicle.

I am referring to the distance between the tail light & the middle plastice piece holder the plate. It's just seems really big of gap - it just doesn't look right. You can easier still a regular pencil through there. They've still yet to fix my water leak either (I've been over there about a dozen times already) cuss
