First off, Carmax might have an awesome service facility, but I certainly can't describe their work in the same manner. I'll get back to that in a minute.
I am guessing I am having a sticking slider pin in my 97 (driver rear side). It occasionally makes a "metal wallow" sound when in motion. It will do it while driving straight OR making right hand turns... but NOT left turns???. If I hit the brake pedal, it stops. The wheel has never gotten overly hot, so I am eliminating a sticky caliper shrug
MY QUESTION (finally)... to check the slider pins, do the pads have to be removed. Or hopefully just remove the wheel, and loosen the slider pin bolt? This is my wife and childs daily driver... I don't trust myself too much to remove a bunch of components (unless its just MY daily driver
) Also, is the brake assembly similar to the gen.1? (I just worked on my 90...)
OK, back to my story, I had the 97 sho back at Carmax for various things during the 30 day warranty. One was the AC would intermittantly stop blowing cold air. I had it down there twice. Both times they said it was working for them, and everything checked out. The other day, it went out completely. I took it to them without an appointment. They were so booked, they sent it down the road to a local Ford dealership.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I learned about some TSB's from v8sho.com. I had also previously complained about a clunking noise. (V8sho said this was a symptom of subframe bushings) Well, Carmax had said that everything was n manufacturers specs.???
Anyway, while the Ford D. had it (within a half day), they found the AC problem AND the clunking problem laughing
Ac needed the compresor clutch assembly replaced (and the reciver dryer
)
ALL the subframe bushings were torn and shifting eek! Carmax replaced all subframe bushings.
I never thought Id say this, but thank you FORD!
The bill Carmax gave me was for $1500 oh_my
Thanks to my extended warranty, I was only out $25.
Through all this, I really have to question their "100 point inspection"!
