Latley with my 92 I have been seeing weird things happen. Today I started it and a ton of white smoke came out the exaust. This is the first time I can think of that it has done that. But, also when I rev her up to about 5500 white smoke rises off the engine bay and out the vents (without air on) I read on some other forums that the white smoke can be one of 3 things: Head Gasket, Piston rings, or valve adjustment.

Its never had a valve job!!!
its got 170,000 miles on it.

Should I get the new engine even if I find a 3.0?

comments please

The valve gap adjustment would have no effect on the smoke. After 170,000 miles, you should be duly embarassed about it though. Your camshaft lobes have probably already paid the price.

I am imbarassed, but it was just given to me... So truly it should be my dad to be the major imbarassed culprit :D

Its alot of hard work on the way, just want a 3.0 or 3.2 replacement.......... If anyone has one just a-layin around.....give me a jingle...willing to pay and pickup within 200 miles or so.

I'm in Indiana
I had the engine looked at awial back and it does have a small oil leak.... Would that cause the white smoke on the engine bay at 5.5 grand? The other day when it started hard, I have reason to believe it was just condensation. It runs great right now though.

white smoke=coolant
blue smoke=oil

I wouldn`t drive it,or you risk warping the heads.

White smoke on the OUTSIDE of the engine is either oil or coolant on the exhaust.

Determine which it is by the smell. Coolant gives off a sickly-sweet odor as it burns off the cats. Oils is a more acrid, sharper odor.

Look for your leak.

It smells like oil, it wasn't pure white.
I know now that its just an oil leak thanks all.
