My 2010 SHO has now crossed over the 37K mark and I’m starting to experience some nagging rattles. I took SHOrod’s advice and took care of the headliner wiring but I still have three major rattle issues. Wonder if anyone has had these same issues.
1. Steering Column. This rattle started with the colder weather and hasn’t gone away. I find at higher speeds (70 MPH+) and rough roads (in ample supply in Ohio) the rattle seems to be from underneath the column or by the turn signal stalk. I have thought about taking the column apart looking for a loose part, but don’t know what I’d be getting myself into.
2. Wheel well cover. The plastic cover in the wheel well has fasteners (not screws) that can break or get loose. Again at higher speeds I found the air would get behind the cover and make a very bad rattle. I finally glued the loose fasteners down and that has done the trick.
3. Bottom of windshield. The black plastic/rubber base of the windshield that also houses the wipers. Air was somehow making it under the cover and causing a high speed flapping noise at 60 MPH+. SO loud, that I couldn’t carry on a phone conversation. Nothing obvious was loose, so I took duct tape and covered various sections until I isolated the loose area. I then took GOOP automotive adhesive and ran a small bead in the area of concern. I was very cautious not to use too much or cover too much area due to the drainage function below the cover. Seems to have done the trick so far.
Just curious if anyone has experienced these same symptoms and what you have done to cure the problem. Right now, the steering column rattle is the most annoying since it is “right in my lap” every time I drive.
