raising the idle will make a difference.. stock idle on a 3.2 oil pump sees about 13.5 psi on a fresh motor... worn might be more around 12 ish... now the more oil pressure the less wear is the normal way to see things.. after all these motors have a problem with factory rod bearings so i always like raised idle... also i got UDP so it makes a difference haha

also you can turn the screw enough on a stock setup to get the idle to get higher.. the iac will be about totally closed trying to make up for the increased air flow.

**** it. Wedge a couple of pennies between the screw and throttle arm. Hold them in with bubble gum, snot, mud, duct tape, or whatever you have handy. Saves the time of having to find a screwdriver.

just thought i would jump in on this topic...
(new rebuilt engine... havent started it up yet)

i opened the gap just a tweak more, to raise the idle when i start my new engine. In hopes my idle will shoot up to, and stay at around 1500rpm. Last thing i need is a brand new engine at 900rpm not making a lot of oil pressure. First thing you do on new engines is open that throttle up and let that oil pump start working its hardest!

so idk if what i did was good or bad, but i do know where it originally was. Since i had the TB powdercoated, i can see where the screw was since some of it never saw paint. :D

The only reason you would want to raise the idle is if you had problems with it stalling because of a super light flywheel and really aggressive cams which we don't have for the SHO that I am aware of.

I had this stalling issue on mine with TriFlows/Lightened Flywheel/stock idle. The car would catch the rpm drop fine as long as the car was moving (initially stopping the RPM's higher). It would only catch it 50% of the time if I cam to a stop quickly, or if I was in a stop and go situation like waiting in line at a stop sign.

Too bad cause I really liked the way the car sounded at stock idle....was kinda lumpy.:evilgrin:

and after about a month of a few times where the engine dies, the pcm will adjust the trim on the iac so that stops happening. this is my repeated experience.
