I was wondering about the Midwest SHO's radiator, I need a replacement already. And I was wondering how it was built, if it had plastic tanks like the rest of them. I'm already feeling the warrenty is much better than others', but still, I'd like to research them.

So far I found three, including Midwest SHO's.

Midwest SHO $169.99 2 Year Warrenty
AutoZone $138.99 No Warrenty that I can find, Return policy though
Advance Auto Parts $138.99 1-2 year Warrenty, vauge warrenty description

Both of the others have plastic tanks, I'd like to know if Midwest's does as well. I'm kinda thinking it does, but I'll never know until I ask. Thanks.

Try a real* auto parts store, like NAPA, Car Quest, Federated, O'Rilies, etc, and look into a Modine radiator. They have a lifetime replacement warranty as long as you use deionized water in the coolant mix, and install it right.

* I do not care to much for the Wall-Mart or K-Mart of auto parts stores.

Where might I get deionized water? I mean that sounds like the deal, but I'm not sure really. Gotta make real sure I get the best I can for my SHO.

Use distilled water that you can get for a buck a gallon at any store. I got a Go-Dan Inc. (GDI) radiator through cough, cough, Pep Boys for $150 with a lifetime replacement warranty. I was in urgent need of a radiator as was not able to wait for a lesser priced unit to be shipped. The SHO's radiator is not unique to the SHO, but is a Taurus generality that is readily available at almost any auto parts store in stock.

Rock Auto has the best prices I've seen. They've also got the GDI Double Core for $130 and another brand double core radiator for under $100... Very hard to beat those prices. In order to find them, look up a standard (GL) Taurus with a 3.0L (not SHO). They are only listed under the regular SLO, and not the SHO.

Distilled water is deionized water (for the most part). You can get it at almost any grocery store. It is used in irons to keep the iron from getting clogged up with minerals. The distilation process removes the minerals from the water, like lime, calcium, iron, etc. The minerals are what will clog your cooling system. So, mix your anti-freeze with distilled (aka deionized), Ph neutral water. rangerj

1: best price: www.radiator.com lifetime warranty 129 bucks....problem of course is it takes a day or 2 to get the replacement radiator to your place....pep boys is a trip down to the store.

2: Deionized water: it is what it says: water with the ions like Calcium (Ca+) and Magnesium (Mg+) removed from them using an ion exchange resin (a deionizing resin bed that is in most water softeners). THis process removes all the dissolved minerals from the water using and replaces them with sodium ions from the water softener salt. An interesting process really.

Distilled water is purification by boiling the water....collecting and condensing the steam to give you ion free water. It is the cleanest from a mineral standpoint of any water. It is an expensive process compared to other methods, but gives you pretty much H2O at the other end. A buck or less a gallon at walmart.

RockAuto sells the Lifetime Warranty single core GDI radiator for about $90. Better than Best price. :)

RockAuto's radiator showed up on my doorstep on Wednesday, box open, no fittings, poor packing, and the neck had punctured the box.

Get it locally, the rad is something you don't want thrown around by your YOOPS driver.

I got a GDI single core radiator from autozone for ~$150 or so with a lifetime warranty. Walmart of autoparts stores or not, the zone has better hours than "real" auto parts stores and they are almost as common as starbucks. If my radiator cracks a leak a replacement will be close at hand 99% of the time. The SHO's radiator is a common stock item too.

If the zone doesn't carry a lifetime warranty on these anymore then shop elseware. But before going mail order ask yourself if the savings is worth the extra hassles you'll have to go through for the inevitable warranty claim. So easy to pick a new one up for free at the zone or other local chain store that carries these as in-stock items. On the other hand, who the **** would want to ship a broken radiator back to rockauto?

I just got a radiator from Rock Auto. Same thing AZ sold for $90 less. For that big of difference I will just buy another. I did just put AZ rear calipers on this fall. Went to Gingerman and burnt up a caliper. Went to the zone and got a new one free and changed it out in the lot.

Crimps are usually the problem anyway. Be sure to get the new radiator drivers side re-crimped before even installing it.

I have a radiator that I bought from autozone for $150 that I will let go of for a very reasonable price. I only have 10K miles on it. I would sell it for $70 if that sounds fair to you. PM me or post here and let me know.

I had a similar situation with a 2-row GODAN I had bought from AZ. It came in an open box but had all the parts. Problem was the filler neck was cracked in transit from Miami and I had to redo the job because I didn't catch it in time. Took another 2 days to get new one in.

In any case, AZ does have this for $140. Ask them to look up a SLO Taurus with non-standard cooling. The radiator comes with a lifetime warranty. Any radiator I install into a SHO will always get the 2 row part. Better to have the extra cooling for the V6 IMO.

Could you tell me which part number this one is? I can't find any from GDI except for one under $100, just curious if you mean $130 taxes and all. I'm having a little trouble finding it :bonk:

I honestly didn't see that, I didn't think my thread went so far. I must've missed something. I'm looking for a double core only, so I dunno if you can really help me with that. I just wanna upgrade early so I don't have to worry about it later.
