if stock size is 225/60/16 and thats a 26.6 inch tire then how much would a 225/50/17 tire throw off the speedometer? the later tire is 25.8 inches high thats a .8 inch change surely it must throw it off some. it looks like a 225/55/17 would be a better choice no?

i run 235/45/17 no problem, I have a tire calculator, because i work at a shop that carries tires let me see here....

stock. 215/60/16 overall diameter 26.2 section width 8.5

convert to : 215/55/17 overall diameter 26.3 section width 8.5

as far as 225/55/17 overall diameter 26.7 section width 8.9

and 225/50/17 overall diameter 25.9 section width 8.9

I'd say you are good to go if you go with a 215/55/17. shouldn't hurt the speedo. there are no changes in overall diameter ..well if .01 makes a difference, and the tire width is the same. just a bigger rim. the other sizes are a bit off.

My speedo is only off by 1 mph or so. I run 235/40/18, and while cruising if I set the cruise at 75, the GPS will usually read somewhere around 74 and some change. My short snow tires were another story.

ok my mistake was the stock size, i thought it was 225/60/16 if its 215/60/16 that is just about the same as a 225/50/17 so i should be fine.

When I went to 17" wheels, my overall tire diameter increased because I went from 225/50ZR-16 to 235/45WR-17.

235/55 on the slicer dosen't change speedometer reading.

Dont want to highjack the thread, but my friend has a set of konig 17x7 for sale, wrapped in 225/45-17, is it too small ?

235s on slicers? :oogle: That's a horrible combination, 235s are too wide for a 7" wide wheel, let alone a 6" wide slicer.

As for the 225/45/17, that is quite short, your speedometre will read 4.5% faster than it actually is. For 17" wheels, you want to use 235/45/17s or 225/50/17s.

Yeah I bought the car with these tires. Falken Ziex Ze-512 in 235/55R16. Quite a nice tire, but way too wide. Sidewalls flex a lot.

But the 225 thing, is that I may get a set of konig appeal custom drilled to 5x108 @ 45mm offset rather cheap. So if they look good I might buy it. But they're small. 245-45-17 is what is closer to stock, but I don't think I can fit them on a 17x7 inch rim.
