Putting car up on jack stands

I want to put my car up on jack stands so that all 4 tires are off the ground. After I place the jack in the appropriate "slot" and raise the car, where do I place the jack stand? I am trying to diagnose a possible bad wheel bearing. If I have all four wheels in the air and the car in Neutral, will the wheels rotate freely?

Personally, I'd feel much, much safer getting a portable lift... but if the wheels are off the ground, they should spin... can't think of any reason they wouldn't.

BTW... there's a TSB on wheel bearings, so if you have a bum bearing, and still under warranty, you're g2g. Just get the dealership to take care of it.
