Well, I did this to my '95 ATX 2 summers ago. I thought it was rather straight forward - however, I consider myself rather mechanically inclined. How familiar are you with your SHO? - that will really depend upon how to go about advising you.

Ive replaced a few starters and a couple alternators on this car nothing to indepth. Right now Ive got it down to the valve covers and we've decided to just pull it out. Is there any good books out there with pictures and diagrams.

Yes, the Helms factory manual.

Are you pulling the motor/tranny together or just the motor?

You will want to pull the radiator - you can unbolt the AC Compressor and just lay it to the side. You can unhook the engine's wiring harness from the main wiring harness on the rear valve cover. The PS pump will unbolt and just lay out of the way.

The main thing is just to unhook everything and lay it to the side, pulling it out you will notice what is in the way and how you will need to take care of it. Just make sure you go slow...and don't damage anything. If you are pulling the tranny with the motor watch out for the line going from the master cylinder to the ABS 'brain'. It is challenging, but it is not too difficult. I had pulled motors before, and I thought it was pretty straight forward.

Wow, the inside of that motor looks pretty bad. Are you going to reuse the heads with the rebuilt short block?

As I said earlier the main wiring harness disconnects from the one that goes through the valley. The rest of the main harness sort of wraps around the engine bay - disconnect all of it and drap it over the drivers side fender. The p/s lines and cooler once disconnected from the tranny can also be pulled back and layed over the area of the master cylinder to get it out of the way.

I used 3 chains to pull mine. Two crosshatched over the motor and one to connect those two to the hoist.

I bought bolts and hooks to install on each corner of the heads.....and I used my crappy valve covers to install the motor as I didn't want my good ones damaged by the chains....

I'll post some pics of my install to make it a bit easier to understand what i'm saying....

The first pic is ready to go back in, the second is right after it came out. Enjoy.

We were gonna clean them up bit and see if we could reuse them or not we just kinda started looking into the history of these cars and may use all new parts still checking on how much it will cost. This car sat for 3 years in a parking lot so it could definitly use them but it did start on first crank (we couldnt believe it) It ran better than most new cars. What are some sites I could find parts.

The main people who can help you are mostly here on the forum. All of the sponsors listed on the main page...

NESHO
Shopartsnorthwest
shonutperformance
Shobros

...you will be able to get most if not all of your stuff (and great advice) through them. Also, you have RCM, fastpartsnetwork, and rockauto.
